so here is the story:

i bought my buckskin filly from a lady a few hours away, told her i wanted a barrel prospect, so i asked about this filly she had...

i obviously bought the filly, and she turned out to have a super bad club foot..like stage 4(worse one) so I sent the lady a text and told her this and she said it was almost non-existant....well it came back with avengeance! lol

i told her the filly was lame and i was so mad that she knew she had a club foot and sold her as a performance horse...

my mom said it probably aint fair to keep letting her get bigger and have so much weight on a bad foot(filly was gonna be huge as sire is 3 and is 16h and mom was over 15h)...

told the breeder i was probably gonna put her down because i didnt want her to suffer....

well she text me back and said she had a possible buyer and turned out she wanted to trade a 3 yr old gelding for my filly as she just wanted a broodmare...

so i said ok...little did i know that i was trading a beautiful well cared for filly for this:

a half dead horse...

this horse was sent to the traders friend for unknown reasons and he let him get like this...

i sent both parties these images and told them this was ridiculous and they needed to pick the filly up quick so she didnt end up like this...

the guy who hauled him(which is the traders friend) really needed to have aspca called on him...

Β

anyways, he has a good home now and i gave him his first ever bath yesterday(he is 3 yrs old)..

he is in quarantine until i get him vaccinated and he is a total pansy when it comes to other horses(low man on the totem pole) even afraid of the minis!

Definitely not the worst condition I've ever seen a horse in, but nowhere near good, either. He should put weight on in no time. :3 He have a name? You can tell he's a lovely horse once he puts some meat on those bones.

Β

In the meantime. Call the ASPCA on them yourself.Β

That's ridiculous, I'd report all parties involved. This "breeder" is a sad excuse for one, smh. Can't wait to see how he improves!Β

The lady who owned him lived in oklahoma, she left him at a friends house where he was kept with 13 other horses...i was told he is afraid of other horses so he didnt get to eat the straight alfalfa crap hay this guy had...so he basically starved...

And the fact that they want to use her as a brood mare when she's got this super bad conformation flaw that's likely going to be causing her more distress as she's fully grown... and then add baby weight onto that? That she could potentially pass it onto?

Β

WAT.

Yeah, I agree that you should report them to the ASPCA. That's despicable.Β

Can I ask where in Oklahoma? Is that allowed? I was born and raised there. I still have family there. I might know who you need to contact. You can message me if you'd like.

Im not sure

she sent me a picture of what he looked like when he left and he was already thin...

then he went to some other ladies house(for 4 or 5 months) and then finally to the guys house(been there for a month or so) who then brought him to me...

The owner in oklahoma sent me pics of her horses and the mares are all fatties, so i dont know what happened to him....

Rats. To be honest, things like this, especially out of Oklahoma, make me nervous. I used to have a horse and I gave him to a friend of a friend when I had to move and couldn't take him with me. Now I've lost track of them both and have no clue how to find my boy again. Even just to see that he's doing ok. So when I hear about that kind of neglect in conjunction with Oklahoma, I get upset and can only hope to God that my boy isn't somewhere, in that condition or worse.

I'm sorry all of those that these people have told you sound like a load of crock. Obviously this horse has either been used and abused and neglected or there is some serious underlying issue.

Β

I'd suggest having the vet test him for cushings. We bought a horse a while back and the previous owner swore up and down that she was underweight just because they had a bad hay harvest. Nope turned out she had Cushing's Disease. We ended up battling for a few months to get weight on her and get rid of infection after infection until we just had her put down.

Poor guy! Such a sweet face he has!
Glad he ended up into your care!
He shouldn't have issues gaining the weight back as long as he's otherwise healthy. Good luck with him!

Poor guy!

Β

I know how you feel. When we got our paint he was fairly skinny and didn't trust anyone. You couldn't even get close to him. We've had him for 2 1/2 months and I've got him calm and already broke for the most part. They told us he was 3 going on 4.. yeah, no way. Vet said he was 2 to 2 1/2. So, he hasn't had much riding on him, but at least beginer stuff. haha. So I am glad you have him and not the other person!

Cash is a good boy, he already knows that im the one that feeds him...

ive started messing with his feet and picking up atleast the front ones for now so he can get use to it before i have the farrier out as he has never had his feet done...

i have the vet coming out today to check him over and vaccinate him...

All in all i do believe he will make a splendid recovery as he is already looking way better!!!

He is getting coastal, beet pulp, patriot jr and some thrive...

ill be upping these in the future, so he will be fat n happy in no time!!!

A little update on Cash aka the sad horse(everyone calls him that here) lol

he got his feet trimmed for the first time ever a couple days ago and he did quite well for never havi g it done!!! Fought a little on the hind legs, but he was not horrible!!!

He has gained some weight and is looking much better!!! Still jas a ways to go, but he is improving!!!

I will be starting to round pen him a little bit(just at the walk for now) so he can start to build up muscle...

and so he stays respectful as he starts to feel more energetic...

Im so glad his feet look normal now!!!

I will post updated pictures tomorrow hopefully!!!
