I hate seeing "BANNED ACCOUNTS" when i'm looking for a person's page. To me there is no reason for them to still be here.

Maybe you can remove them and recycle the account #'s i seen quite a few Banned accounts with low ID numbers.

I think Sam gives out low numbered accounts (or let's you choose what act. number you want) as prizes for sitewide games sometimes. And I think I remember she had a sale for it a long while ago.

I'm sure she has some rhyme or reason as to why she doesn't give them out/sell them regularly.

Also some banned accounts are really frozen accounts from players who let upgrades expire and can only have the 5 basic accounts

I'm one of the players Maharet mentioned. I still own my banned accounts but have had them frozen either as punishment for.too many (*redface*) or having requested their closure until such time I can upgrade them.

I've thought about asking to buy some low numbered accounts, but I've not come around to do it yet lol

Yea, I've had my accounts "banned" when I've not been able to re-up. I'd be a little offended if I went to upgrade it and it had been sold off. I've also thought about buying a certain account number but, to me, it wasn't worth the money in the end. I prefer to spend it on upgrade xD

I came back after 2 years off and I had a number of accounts that were banned dut to expired upgrades. Thankfully though I now have all 30 accounts open again and upgraded. This meant that I didnt have to create new accounts which was really nice.

Yep. As it has been stated, most banned accounts were put in that status by the players who owned them due to either their own inactivity or wanting them frozen if they can't upgrade them. I know I have a lot of accounts that way. And I can't remember my logins for them so they will more than likely be frozen forever.

The large majority of banned accounts on the game are banned because people let upgrades expire and then had too many basics. When that's the case, we will re-open the account later if they choose to re-upgrade.

If an account has been banned for a few years we sometimes will re-sell them. It depends on WHY they were banned, though, because if we get rid of a banned account then we lose the mod log, and we lose the connections to the original player so we can see what accounts they have had.

I do sell empty or some long-time-banned accounts when people ask about them, and I also give them away as prizes sometimes.

I know how the banned account thing works, and I think right now its a really good idea.

However, in the case, would there be a way to have accounts listed as "Frozen" rather than banned? I dunno, sometimes when I see "This player has been permanently banned" it has a negative connotation. Especially when it exists on leaderboards it might deter people from wanting to join.

That's my two cents though. :)

I agree with lynn! I think that it would be easier mods/players to determine which accounts are frozen vs actually banned.

At some point that could be changed, but it would be a massive undertaking to swap it all. Especially because when we warn you for too many basic accounts, we will still ban them and then let you re-open them later, but then how would we differentiate?

But for reference, mods can tell :).

I think if someone had too many basic accounts, they could be frozen? Then they have like say 6 mo. or a year, or whatever time to re-open it before it becomes offically banned? Obviously though I understand how complicated this would be. And that some people may not like having a deadline.

My worry was just as I stated above is just that we are kind of driving away potential players because just from the looks of it, the facade makes it seem like there is just a bunch of banned players on the site, when in reality it is the exact opposite. :) I just know that when I came back from hiatus, looking through all the old lines and seeing banned accounts made me worry if I should spend the money to re-upgrade. It took me a while to figure out that most of the banned accounts are just what most would consider "frozen".

I know this may not be added anytime soon, but since I saw this was brought up I thought i'd throw that idea in, just in case it would help the site with trafficking in new players.

Side note: everytime I read this I think of someone with a thick canadian accent saying this (no offense to my canadian friends :P).

There is a thread out there that talks about having rankings for active players that I feel like may be an easier remedy than having freeze on accounts.

What about giving the freezer account a different name if they are banned? Like FREEZED ACCOUNTS instead of BANNED, so players could tell the difference between those banned accounts that are players who are actually banned and who aren't .

Well, the reason people are banned when have too many basics, is because they have broken a rule of only being allowed to have 5 basics so the rules are still being broken which results in punishment (it's not an automatic thing, Mods do give active individuals the chance to upgrade the account before taking action).

So they are still legitimately "banned" accounts. So I guess I'm not really understanding the need to differentiate between the two.

I actually banned a couple of my own accounts because I'm not able to reupgrade them at the moment. I don't see a problem with it saying BANNED. The accounts aren't "frozen," they're banned because I was (about to) go over the 5 basic account limit. A rule's a rule.

Really it's just one more option in the mod panel that wouldn't really need to be there. The administrators can unban an account whenever needed.

We also need access to those records on the account to keep straight who did what where when and why and who dealt with the issue.
