Trying Not to Get So Excited...

BUT!!!!!! I may have found another horse? I am going to look at him sometime next week hopefully. Someone else is looking at him this week, and if she doens't by him (EVERYONE THINK THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS PERSON NOT BUYING THIS HORSE)
EDIT: this is daddy. Big Chex to Cash. (He is a Herda carrier, but the gelding has been tested and tested negative. He's a gelding so i don't gotta worry about breeding him and ending up with a foal with Herda, thank god.) |

If you are gonna be spending an obscene amount on a performance horse...i wouldnt take a chance on crooked legs...especially since he isnt a mare and if he did end up lame you cant breed him...just my opinion...since i was just screwed over twice with my club footed filly and then a starved gelding...

I am going to talk to a vet First obviously. I have dealt with performance horses as well. Apparently Big Chex To Cash foals have a history of crooked legs. At least the two at my barn and the three the trainer this horse came from do as well. but like I said, I have dealt with performance horses before, I'm not dumb or uneducated about them haha so of course he is getting a full bet check with x-rays and all that. And I wouldn't consider him an "obscene" amount of money for how nice a horse he is. |

That leg is pretty bad, and his feet aren't very nice either... I personally would say no but obviously it's up to you =) |

Could the leg possibly be corrected with a bit better care of his feet? Might be the angle but those hooves look uneven, or long, or something. I don't know what but I noticed that before the leg.
Yeah that "won't be a problem for 10 years" but 10 years of a half ton of stress on that crooked joint sounds like it would make for a lot of suffering in 10 years... Link Tree |

His feet were due. That photo was taken the day we looked at him at the lady's property. He has since had them done.
i have all the same concerns you guys do. That's why, like I have said a few times, I am having a vet come to look at him and do x-Rays and all that jazz.
the thing I'm most nervous for - and this may be dumb - is like if I don't get him (which is likely) I'm never going to find another buckskin with four white socks and a blaze that was trained by Andrea Fappini and has a nice mane tail and forelock and is as kind as he is for a price I can afford. Like I can't see myself "settling" on a solid sorrel horse ever after owning paints my entire life and then trying this guy out. Maybe that sounds dumb but idk. If I'm going to pay a lot of money for a nice horse, it may as well be nice for me to look at.
edit: I'll take some photos of his legs tomorrow since he's gotten his feet done and such. I'll do some different angles and make him actually stand square/take a video of him moving. :) |

At his age "corrective" shoeing is only likely to cause problems and push him towards breaking down Chao. |

I understand where you are coming from overture!!! If only he were a mare!!! Lol of course then youre offspring would have a good chance of having crooked legs too... good things come to people who wait!!! Just sayin...after you buy him your absolute dream horse could come available!!! |

Also, I am going to try to say this without sound rude? I am really not trying to be rude, but I think on the internet tone and stuff is hard to detect and sometimes it makes things sound harsher than they are meant to be. With that said...
I want you guys to know I appreciate all of your input and stuff, but I am not going to decide anything about a horse based on the opinions of people on the internet after seeing like 6 photos of one horse. That isn't to say you guys don't know what you're doing or talking about - I know you guys do. But I also know what I'm doing. My trainer knows what she's doing. The two trainers this horse came from know what they are doing. Andrea Fappini (the breeder) certainly knows what he's doing. (Equ, idk what you mean about these people "pulling my chain" but they aren't at all? They are good honest people? They haven't lied about anything? I'm sorry if anything in this thread made you think that, it isn't true. They are good people).
The vet is coming Monday moring. We are doing a full soundness exam/vet check. We are doing x-rays on all four legs. We are doing ultrasounds if they vet thinks necessary. We are doing this correctly. With that said, if the vet passes the horses, the vet passes the horse. That doesn't mean I am discounting what you guys are saying or thinking about the horse at all, I just trust a vet who has seen the horse is person more than people who have just seen the horse on the internet.
xxChaotic - "suffering" is a super strong word? Like even if the horse goes lame, I would never push the horse harder or past what needs to happen? I would never let an animal of mine be in pain? I REALLY hope you don't think that low of me. 0.o Idk if you meant it that way, but I would NEVER EVER let a horse suffer. If it is likely he will go lame (which we will know with xrays and a vet check, like I have said) then I won't get him.
so yeah: tl;dr - the vet is going to look at him and then we will make our decision based on the vet's analysis. It isn't 100% I am getting him even if he passes. I just don't want the entirety of HP (one of my internet happy places) to hate me because of this horse. :/ I'm super paranoid about everyone hating me, sorry.
I really do hope this didn't come out rude - sorry. |

@ Overture - I can not speak for anyone in the forums/HP (As I am not them), but I do NOT hate you nor would I be angry at you over a "simple" matter of a horse being purchased. However, I also, want to emphasize what you stated above, about sounding rude online; that was not my intent in the comment. However, I will honestly state that some things in this thread post made it seem like these people were playing you for this stallion. With that being said, I had stated in my prior comment about them "pulling your chain" for the fact that your post had stated they're putting you off towards this other girl as a therapuetic horse and that you had recently discovered a crooked leg and long hooves. That, however, in NO WAY means that I believe them to be liars or clueless people - This is not true. I am sure they're very smart, experienced horsemen but being as I'm not there in person with the seller, you or this stallion, I can only go by your comments in this thread. If you trust them and know that they're honest and experienced, then that is what you should go by. We can only give our input from experience/photos and that is how it portrayed to me. I hope maybe this clears things up as to what I was saying in the prior comment and that you too, can forgive me for sounding rude or insulting in any way. Again, that is NOT my intention at all.

I was only wanting to see more pictures / video because he is beautiful!!!!
I am keeping my nose out of everything else because it isn't my buisness at all. It is between you, your vet and the seller. I will be happy with whatever you decide so long as it makes YOU happy!
You got this!!!!
Goodness he is stunning. |

He's so pretty! I can however see why the leg is a concern for you, it would be for me too. All I can say is.. Not my money. Not my horse. Not my choice.
If you do keep him, I want photo spam every.single.day! ♥ |

I know we all say a crooked leg could cause pain, but what about all us people that run around minus limbs and still do spartan races...and other stuff? Of course we dont add the extra weight of a rider... Like i have a crooked foot and i can still do everything anyone with normal feet can!!! I really hope he passes for you overture!!! :D |

I was thinking from that first picture that his leg was like... bent in at the knee (>) "crooked," not rotated crooked like it is. Hence the more dramatic language. I couldn't imagine a kink in the leg like that would be sound for much longer but seeing it from different angles, I can see why you were getting told it will likely be fine. The professionals that see him in person are going to be the only ones to know for sure, all of us people on the internet are only trying to be constructive based on the information we have. Equ - I can see how you may have thought that, but do not worry, they are not. :) He is for super private sale. Like super secret. Secret. :-p IDK what i'm talking about. But yeah, he is not really for sale - they have about four horses they are planning to sell at the end of this show season - since the show season isn't quite over, my trainer thought asking now would be a good way for people to know we are interested now, so that when it is over they know to call us about horses for sale. The woman who has this horse is willing to sell him now since he isn't showing at the moment but the cousin of her assistance trainer was trying the horse out, so she said if they don't want the horse you guys can go for it. It took longer than expected for them to make the decision, but eventually it took too longer, so the trainer, who is also the horse owner told them that they were going to let us try the horse out since they were so indecisive. Hopefully that makes more sense, haha
Aud - oh, trust me. I have way too many photos of him on my phone already.x.x he's just so cute!
Aza - that is how I think haha. I would certainly never be told I have "good conformation" :p He is not going to be ridden that hard either. He isn't the type of horse that has to be warmed up or loped down for a long amount of time before he is calm enough to get some work or schooling in - he pretty much comes out of his stall calm. Just a little warm up and he is good to go. That saves on a lot of "miles" that would be put on him. I am going to show him, but not every weekend and not at huge huge events like AQHA Worlds or anything haha (but a girl can dream ;)) So his little conformation flaw won't be made worse by the amount of work he'll be doing
Chaotic - oh yeahhhh, if it was his knee that was rotated no way would I look at him, haha. bad knees is a huge no no x.x He also doesn't like "roll" into it either, which is good. he steps flat on it when he moves, so he isn't adding extra stess to the tendons. The vet has a mobile x-ray machine thing so we're gonna do lower leg/feet x-rays to see how everything connects and stuff down there. :)
Thank you guyssss. two more days unti vet check! I had another lesson on him today - he is such a doll! And he nickered at me when I went to go get him out. ugh baby face |
