I think it's only fair that this should be made explicit to the players of this game. So I'm doing it.

They can read your messages. So don't say anything you wouldn't want read in court. =p

I honestly think it's a massive violation of our privacy.

I usually stay out of this sort of thing, but on this one, I feel the need to put my 2 cents in. So bare with meThe thing with the Internet is there's really no such thing as "privacy". What you post there is available to the whole world, even if you have massive filters in place (like on Facebook or whatever) ANYONE really can access what you put out there. Friends, coworkers, bosses, admin of websites...that's just something that is part of it. The trouble is, people who didn't grow up with the Internet don't really realize that and just post anything and everything. In a world where technology reigns supreme, there is no privacy anymore. Everyone has access to everything. I, personally, did in fact read the TOS and Privacy Policy when I started here. I do so on every new site that I join so that I know EXACTLY what goes on behind the scenes. Like others before me have said, it's no one's fault but the person who didn't read the appropriate pages before they joined. And whether you meant to come off as attacking or hostile isn't really the point. This further proves my point about the Internet and people just posting things all willy nilly. If you are upset about something and want to post about it, write it down in a notebook or type it in a word document then SAVE IT OVERNIGHT. Come back to it the next day when you have had a moment to step back and calm down and then re-read it and see if the tone you wrote in is the one you want to use. Do you want to accuse someone and attack them or do you want to make a suggestion that will help move things forward? By just typing things in the heat of the moment and hitting that send or publish or post button, you could inadvertently start a huge confrontation over something that was meant to be a simple statement and people can get offended, have their feelings hurt, or say things they regret later. I speak from a great deal of personal experience with this, and I just had a very good friend who, even with all of their privacy filters on Facebook, just lost their job for posting a rather nasty status about the CEO of my company. The CEO could not read it, nor could any of the managers of my department or any other department at the company, but someone told on him and he lost his job because of it.Sorry that was a bit of a long soap box. I'm not here to act like anyone's mother or to scold. I'm simply pointing out the observations I have made after growing up with the Internet from it's beginnings all the way until now. Thank you for sticking with me if you actually read all of this. *steps off soapbox*

I totally see where Lollygag is coming from. People don't think the TOS is important. I didn't read them when I joined but I have since then and good thing I did just so that in the know. Not many teens will have the care or want to read the TOS when they join. Maybe there can be a compromise? When a player joins, maybe Sam could create a TOS highlights such as the Privacy rule and possibly explain it out a bit?Just throwing up an idea :P

There shouldn't need to be any compromise. You tick a box that says you agree to be bound by the rules and TOS. If you don't actually read them and don't know what you're agreeing to be bound by, that's your problem. I'm sorry if that sounds blunt, but I really don't think Sam should be expected to compromise on this just to get people to read it. Every website that you join has a box you tick that says you've read or agree to be bound by the TOS and if you don't read it, it's your own problem. I don't know of any other websites that highlight bits and pieces of their TOS to make sure their new players read it. If there are any that do that, please shed some light.Every paragraph of the TOS is as important as the next, so highlighting particular pieces for player convenience isn't going to work. If you don't read it, there's no one to blame except yourself.(All my uses of 'you' and 'your' etc are general)

Having a condensed TOS sounds like a legal disaster waiting to happen. The purpose of a TOS is to let the users/customers know the terms that they must agree to in order to use a service (in our case, this website). As Shae said, every part of it is important, there would be no way to condense it without leaving something important out and it would further encourage people not to read the full agreement. It's like a contract, you need to read it before you sign it because literally ANYTHING could be there, and as soon as you sign it (or with a terms of service, check that little box) you're saying that you've read it and you're okay with everything in it whether you've actually read it or not.The issue of people not reading the TOS spans further than just the privacy of messages on HP. It covers EVERYTHING we do. We can't make everyone read it, but it's not our fault when someone has chosen not to read it and therefore doesn't know what it contains. That goes for any website or service, really.

I don't see the problem, I'll admit I didn't read the TOS as thoroughly as i should've, but I've got nothing to hide if HP staff want to read my messages because they think I'm up to something. I can't imagine the staff snooping through messages for the sake of being nosy xD.

Though I will say if they wanted to snoop through my messages for a giggle they would probably get one with some of the conversations I've had...

I personally don't think it's a big deal if an admin reads my messages. When I first joined I did read through the TOS, Help, and Rules, as I do with every online game I join. And I noticed the part of admins having access to your messages. At first it was a little concerning but seeing now how well the game is run, and how the admins & mods handle themselves extremely well and they are very professional I don't see a big deal of them being able to access my messages. Hope that all made sense. :)

I agree with the players who stated they dont care if the admins/mods can read messages...if it were turned around and you had a "stalker" you would want them to be keeping up with that...if them not actually reading the message you would send them the message or a screenshot....so really whats the difference?! i think they are doing a great job of running HP.... Theres give and take....

I really don't see what the big deal is..it's not like they're going to sit there and read them just for fun?
