I have played for a while and I always see these amazing lines so all you quality breeders. How many pairs should I start out with? When should I add new store dogs to my line? How often should I breed? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! I am starting a new breed and I would like to make them amazing! Thank you so much in advance. |

How many pairs should I start out with? I would say 2-4 at most.
When should I add new store dogs to my line? I add them whenever I don't have a matching pair from the pups/foals :)
How often should I breed? I usually do at ages 13 and 15... if you are planning on selling the back up at age 13.. (horses are ages 18 and 20.. sorry about that). |

Same as insom but I like to try and look for pups/foals from other breeders to match to mine before getting stores. I also buy stores when my lines get down to a single pair. |

I only keep 2 pairs of anything at a time. Right now I'm being super lame and only keeping one pair because my life just got a little wild. @_@
I add in stores as necissary just to keep it to two pairs. So I'm adding two stores every generation, if that makes sense.
And I only breed once. Most people breed twice, but there's no market for any of my breeds so I don't really care about having backups. Link Tree |

When you get more comfortable with HP you can always add in more pairs to your lines then breed down with each generation. Somtimes I get tired of seeing the store lines in my animals so I go and buy like 8 or 10 pairs to train and then added them in with what I've already got xD |

I agree with everyone here, there's no real "set in stone" style you have to do - It's whatever you can do (by HPD or time) or what you want to do. Like Trig said, it's whatever you're more comfortable with here right now. How Many Pairs Should I Start With? - Now, my AQH's were started off kinda random so I have two lines going at the moment - But when I first came back in June, I started off with a single store pair to train; but I kinda went into "hoarding mode" and now I have two lined AQH's (A 2nd Gen mare and a 4th Gen stally) along with my starters (HP hoarding has caught me xD), but a single pair is what's usually ideal for those restarting the game to get reaquainted with how everything works. When Should I Added Stores? - Since store animals are infinite and will always be around, I would honestly say buy them after every breeding you do to build up your own pedigree. You could import lined animals if your really comfortable or have a well-known breed, but in almost all cases, store animals are your friend when doing lines (especially rare breeds). How Often Should I Breed? - This both depends on the popularity of your breed/how many babies you want. Like Chaotic said, many people breed twice to have one for themselves and one backup. If you're doing a rare breed or you don't have time for a huge crop of pups, I'd suggest breeding only once until you're more settled in.
