Boredom Eating

So I'm dieting to get a little healthier (since I've mostly been ignoring health for awhile) and eating a little less, but I'm having issues with boredom eating - I'm one of those people who will munch on chips or crackers while I'm studying or working and its's totally absent minded, but it's not helping me with my goal here, haha.

What do you do to stop from doing this? I've tried drinking water, and chewing gum but they only kind of help.

sunflower seeds, with shell. they help to take away the food cravings, also great way to quit smoking.

I also find it a good idea to pick only one place to eat, like the kitchen table. On the occasions I do choose not to eat there I leave the chip bag on the counter and put a moderate handful onto a saucer or in a sandwich sized ziploc bag and take it back to my desk or chair where I am using my computer or reading a book at. As a general rule I find that once I have depleted the serving I brought with me that it is not worth getting up to get another.

"There is a wide, yawning black infinity. In every direction, the extension is endless; the sensation of depth is overwhelming. And the darkness is immortal. Where light exists, it is pure, blazing, fierce; but light exists almost nowhere, and the blackness itself is also pure and blazing and fierce."

I drink a lot of herbal teas. Especially the fruit flavored ones. I have so many different caffeine free options that every time I crave something snack like I just make a different cup of tea:) They taste sweet because of the fruit but they don't actually have any sugar. If I'm craving something salty, I go for a black tea or a savory green tea. It helps me!
