I have two dogs who scarf down there food, then 5 seconds later they nose each others bowls and split off to my other two dogs and start trying to bully them out of their food. I have been working with them, but they are both so food oriented that they ignore me most of the time. Any ideas on how I can make food time pleasant for all of my dogs?

Feed them in a separate room or have the bullies so they can't get to the ones still eating, and don't let them together until they all are done

Thats where the problem is. My dogs aren't allowed in the main house [we just moved] and my bedroom is somewhere close to 900 sq ft. or more. But i dont feed outside due to my personal preference. so I feed them in there own spaces in the room but they still feel the need. Its like I have to be a referee to keep the peace x.x

900 square feet?! That's bigger than my two bedroom apartment was!Try keeping one outside, while you feed the other?

You could try feeding the bullies then when they are done put them outside and then feed the others?

Haha I've been teaching my grandparent's Boxer, Rascal, how to be wellmannered :)Feed the mischievous dogs last. Make them sit and wait their turn.Feed the good dogs first. Remember in the wolf society that there is an order. Your dogs believe that they are top dog and deserve any and all food.So by feeding them last shows them where they are in ranks.Rascal will sit obediently now away from my dogs while they eat from HIS food dish. My dogs know when I say "enough", to back away from the food.I hope this helps and would love to follow your progress :D

Im going to try it the first way first, then I will do it in the ranks. Its harder that way for me I believe just for the fact that they do know their manners, they just chose when they listen to them. It bugs me that they do that. I actually have started talking with a professional dog trainer to see if they can give some advice to me as well cause they are getting out of hand and I have nephews that want to help me when I feed them.

If they don't listen, put them on a leash and have someone sit them down and wait their turn :D

Stand in front of their bowls..intimidate them..dont let them boss you around.

Alrighty. So I did it a different way kind of incorporated both ideas. But I let the good pups eat first and made the bullies lay there and watch. It was so much easier to feed! They are soo smart when I get the focused on me. I just wish they didn't have a fish attention span >.< haha

That's wonderful! You'll always have to feed them this way because they'll start a fight even if you don't think so. Little dogs are more prone to pick fights because of how the owners treat the smaller ones. Don't let any dog boss you around :PWay to go! :D

Definitely keep that up every night. They need to learn that they are not at the front of the pack and they have to wait their turn, but with saying that, they need solid rules and consistency from you so you can maintain your pack order.Mine eat together, but every single night they are sat down, bowls placed in front of them and they eat when I give the word and not a second before. If any of them push the boundaries and try to begin before I give them their release, he/she is sat and waits until the other two are finished, THEN he/she can eat. The last time I had to make one wait while the others ate was in November last year. I haven't had anyone push their luck since. No room for greedy disobedient pigs here XD

Exactly :D That's what I do with my two and when I have them over at my grandparents, the boxer usually has to wait his turn because he gives the other two 'death' stares and intimidates them from their bowls :(All I really have to do now is walk in between the boxer dog and the bowl he's interested in..continue to walk up to him until he sits his butt down. Same training exercise I do when we're playing fetch. I don't throw the item (toy/stick) until he sits and behaves ;) he'll do ANYTHING for me to throw that stick! lol

Yup. Mine don't get anything until they sit calmly. The only exception is when we're at the river. If they want to splash around in the water while I throw sticks, i'll let them. One of Mark's friends thinks i'm too strict with them, but I don't think I am. I just have rules and they have manners, and they respect me. If having 3 dogs that listen to me is me being too strict, then so be it lol. But I couldn't imagine living with 3 untrained, disobedient, ill-mannered brats.

That one will have to take time, making them do a group sit before eating. But I started that kind of training. I make them sit and not touch there food, then I give the okay. But after that its like last man standing for the two bullies. I may have to redirect there food time in to training time so they get fed they portion for listening to me. x.x

Feed them one at a time? also try feeding in the bowls that make them eat slower.

My labs eat WAY too quickly and don't even chew their food so I started putting rocks in their bowls. Large ones that wouldn't get swallowed in a mouthful of kibble. Now they have to eat around the rocks and move them around, it's slowed them down a TON.
