Hm, perhaps a gelding perk?

Hello all, firstly, thanks for taking the time to view my thread!

A few of us in chat were just striking up some conversation and the topic of geldings on the game came up. In another horse sim game I used to play, geldings had a perk of training quicker than other horses. In this game, there is no perk whatsoever and you only geld a horse so it doesn't breed.

Perhaps maybe there should be a perk for gelding a stallion, such as doing better in shows if you base your horses off show wins, etc. I mean, you wouldn't be able to breed the horse at all, but you could earn more money for your account this way.

Just a little thought. All opinions are welcome, and other ideas based on geldings. :)

Seconded! And/or maybe earning more player points from training a gelding?

This is a good idea.

But player point animals arent allowed on hp. So not sure if that would be a perk to have. But yes, gelding perks may be nice. But other then breeding lines(mare and stallion)... not sure what else a gelding would benefit too...

Well, as long as you can't breed the horses, it's not like it could ever be passed down anyways. :)

Whats the point of them then? They would serve no purpose except player pts...

I like the idea of a gelding actually having more of a purpose other than just being able to purchase one from the store.  However, player point animals are not allowed on HP, and essentially that's what geldings would be if this was implemented.  I like the idea, but in the end I don't forsee it being a good addition to the game.  If you are wanting them to acrue more points maybe getting double registry points when registering to a club and possibly double points in club shows would be a better route to go.  It would be your idea, just on a much smaller scale. ☺

I have to agree with Tron. I think it would be nice if the geldings served some kind of function. Usually even when the stallion retires, people typically don't geld them. I have done many emergency or project horse retirement breedings and had I gelded that stallion when he retired, well..you know. I wouldn't have been able to do the retirement breeding. Player point animals aren't allowed (as everyone has already said), and it would be pretty disappointing if the animal got an impressive amount of points and then not being able to breed him?

Ideas are always welcome here though :)

Yeah. I guess we were trying to figure what's the point of them even existing, you know? Just trying to find SOME perk to it lol. Some pay off should someone do that.

Also I had forgotten about the player point animals not being allowed bit when I suggested that. *sheepish*

Hmmm strange thought and maybe a little complex but what about if you could assign geldings to another horse as like a " paddock companion" or similar and then the horse its assigned to gains a small number of extra points for X amount of points the gelding earns... It could be a feature you pay HPD for like buying extra shows but it could be for the duration of that animals life...

I actually had a project gelding a while back.

That sounds extremely complicated to implement. I wouldn't mind seeing SOME kind of incentive for geldings though. I just don't know what without getting into pp animal territory.

This is my two cents on the idea typically:

Honestly - I do not understand why geldings are put in the game, if all they do is interfere the territory of fast points. They really have no purpose on here. We do not have a World like Horseland, so you can't ride them around and, obviously, they can not be shown because pp.

It's actually impossible to even give them a perk. I think the only thing they could be implemented for, if you were truly desperate to keep them, would be a merit system like my Studbook rules; however, I do not know how they could be judged.

I think geldings should kinda be deleted honestly at least until we can figure out something for them.

P.S - Not trying to sound like a jerk, so I apologize if I do :/

Yeah, it was just some sort of idea. The thought of somehow keeping the geldings in the game, but also having a positive outcome. :) Love hearing everyone's opinions!

If we already have geldings what's the point of removing them, just to add them back into the game later on if we find something to do with them?

I think it's a good idea to add some "perks" of training geldings on HP. Instead of getting so many points per show on the horse , couldn't we get half the points and some extra HPD? . It would help the basic players out, who don't have enough money to buy upgrades, or have enough HPD. We could always use geldings as Train to sells.. You know horse/dogs you train to a certain amount of points then sell for Extra HPD.? I've looked around in the forums, someone asked a question about Train-to-sells and they are allowed on HP I believe

@Maze - The point of deleting them is because there is most likely a chance they will never have a purpose on this game. Geldings in real life are only used as pasture companions, certain groundwork training or showing; and, many of these, we can not implement into the game. There's really no perk to them, no matter how you look at it.

On Horseland, geldings were used as two purposes: Money Shifting or Riding. Two things that are either not needed or implemented. We have a Bank we can transfer money or HPB (So that scratches that use) AND we do not have a world (so that scratches out riding).

Secondly, train-to-sells I believe only work for stallions & mares because at least they can be sold to breed. Geldings can not breed, so it's quite pointless to train them and sell them (and again, would trespass the pp rule).

Not to mention - By cutting points in half for the geldings, that could also potentially cut showing in half for normal horses (because I believe all run on the same system. So it would take a ton of code rewriting just to implement a feature that small); not to mention too, I feel like getting HPD like that would be sort of like cheating. If all players could just get HPD that way, there would be no demand for Upgrades and thus would make the economy even worse than it already is.

I'm not saying Fox Hollow Farms' idea is horrible, but - I really do not think there's any way to implement a use for geldings at this time.
