For those of you that have them, what toys and scratchers do you use to save your carpets and furniture? I have a couple of cardboard scratchers, but one of my cats came declawed so I've never really had these issues with him!

I just kinda... Collect scratchy things. I have a cat tree, a couple cardboard ones, one of those little lounges. Mordred just kinda uses everything.

i made a cat post out of scrap wood and then hot glued rope to it. pasha loves it.
but then he also gets frisky and attacks one corner of the couch with his teeth and my spare bedroom bed...

my old cat was obsessed with the backdoor frame, its seen better days...

My cats has this infront of a big window with a view over the livingroom and the computer room:

To me it has always been all about giving them options. They prefer to be able to stretch out properly, so tall posts are prefered. If they scratch anywhere else, just a firm no and remove their paws gently by pushing my hands towards them have been enough for me. I refuse to spray water or whatever as I need to be able to bathe them without starting a wrestling match (that I will undoubtedly lose).

yeah that third thing. We have a couple of those (I have a cat furniture problem) and those seem to be Mordred's favorite. He doesn't scratch vertically like on proper posts or, say, the couch. He prefers to scratch horizontally like on those lounge things.

Peep was front declawed by her previous owners so she just kind of... vindictively paws at... everything.

I'm having issues with the kittens wanting to scratch ALL the things. I really should trim nails, but they're squirmy worms. Is Joel any good with building? He could build a cat tree with wood and carpet scraps or rope or something. Jimmy needs to build me one. You can find guides online on how to make them.

Chao, Lok does that sometimes so he always goes to the floor one then. In Sweden I had a shelf with a rug stuck to it that he'd scratch on as well. :)

My post was just about my cats and what they prefer though. ♥ All the kitties are different! :D You just have to find what works for you Sam!

My cats have a giant barn post...and after many generations of cats it looks like a beaver went at it. :P

I have a 3 tier cat tree that Smudge just absolutely adores.  The pole that attaches the tree portion to the base is all wrapped in rope.  Twice she's destroyed the rope but the tree is in really good condition still, so we wrap the rope ourselves.  Just go to your local hardware store and pick up some cheap rope and a staple gun.  If the noodz likes scratching horiztonal instead of vertical you can alway srun rope at the base of the tree too if the carpet isn't enough. :P  I originally got my tree from Petsmart but costco has WAY better deals.  If you don't have any in at your warehouse online still has some good deals!

I've got two, three tier cat towers and a couple of the scraching boards. One came from Petco and the other my friend's dad built for us as a wedding gift! xD
Emmie is the only one with her front claws, but she's really good abut using the towers to sharpen her daggers.
