For cleaning I LOVE magic erasers. They are my go to when cleaning the walls. Bristol goobers get everywhere. haha. Also, with all my hardwood and tile I use a swiffer with the wet pads. If you are doing your windows use newspaper instead of papertowels. They don't leave behind any fluff and it's streak free. As for the smelly goodness! I use Glad Plugins Scented Oil http://www.glade.com/en/products/oils-and-gels/glade-plugins-scented-oil-warmer-customizables Set it on the lowest setting and you are good to go. I also have some glade spray fresheners that are on a timer and help to keep the house smelling good. http://www.glade.com/en/products/sprays/automatic-spray |

I absolutely second magic erasers. Those things are freaking brilliant! And newspaper for the windows is also an excellent tip. My dad taught me that when I was a kid and he'd get me to help him clean the car. I was generally on windex & newspaper duty for the windows! |

I'm a house cleaner so I know how to get a good deep clean ;) I actually don't like Swiffers...maybe they've made them better but I use them in my house and they don't do as good a job as a microfiber washable mop. I also put towels under my feet to dry the floor as I clean so there's no footprints (and paw prints) and the floors dry faster with no streaks...it's kind of like a buffer. Microfiber towels are great for cleaning in general. People use sponges to clean their counters but since sponges usually retain some dirt (like from dishes and too many uses), they streak the counters and leave a film. Use a soapy, damp towel (or your favorite multi-purpose cleaner) and wipe down your counters, walls, baseboards, tables, windowsills--any surface really (except wood--use a wax or wood cleaner on wood)--and then use a dry towel to dry it immediately. I absolutely am in love with Comet. The powder comet, the spray comet, the foam comet...I think it's a great brand. As for windows, I use a product called Sprayway and a microfiber cloth, and then a cloth diaper for a buffered, streak-free shine. However, you'd have to find special cloth diapers that are really soft. I get mine through a friend that refuses to tell me his source. So I think maybe using the newspapers would be easier, lol. What I usually do when cleaning a house, especially for the first time, is look for the little crevices where buildup and grime hide. It's usually somewhere people overlook everyday, such as baseboards, fans, grout, behind faucets, and cabinets,..etc.-- to name a few common areas. Anyways, here's some tricks I use when cleaning:
GET A TOOTHBRUSH! Lol, I love to use my toothbrush (not my personal toothbrush, one from a janitorial store or Home Depot). You can get into small places to remove mold and dirt in grout, around the bottom caulking of your toilet/bathtub/faucets...etc...basically any small place that mold and dirt buildup is.
GET A RAZOR! A lot of people have mineral deposits on their sink faucets and bathtub/shower faucets. You can GENTLY use a WET razor to get those off. You can also use it to get other hard, stuck on dirt/food off things but make sure to make your razor wet, and use it carefully so that you don't scratch whatever surface you are working on.
GET A SCREWDRIVER! Yup, I use a screwdriver to get into the track of sliding doors and windows and also (if you don't want to pull your stove out to clean behind and beside it), you can use a screwdriver to get in between your stove/oven and get the little food crumbs out. Those are some of my handy-dandy tools. Also, I use a pumice stone to get stubborn toilet bowl rings out. |
