I'm not the best to critque graphics (well realistic wise anyway) But I just wanna start with saying... Simply beautiful job with a tracpad.Now.. as you see the light is coming from outside of the cave, you may have got the shadow on the ground correctly, but what about the horse? The way the light travels.. the whole left side of the horse should have a light shadow. (its ears should cast a shadow on its face. Just those little things make something more realistic.Just a couple hits and tricks that I've learned in the past.. TUTORIALS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND. http://romanticfae.deviantart.com/art/Hair-Tutorial-216476690 even though that's for human hair... It works the same way as manes and tails.Smudging is your best friend. use a pressue of 3-40 to get that perfect smudge style you want. http://s-unless.deviantart.com/art/Body-Smudging-Tutorial-108884739I hope this helped.

Just a quick reply, even though this probably isn't relevant to this image anymore. Never use smudge for bodies unless you have absolutely have to. Not to tread on anyone's toes, just if you smudge things you lost a lot of detail in the coat. It's good if you want to make things look a tiny bit smoother, but even then, just duplicate the layer, smudge lightly, and then reduce the opacity. It just looks better imo. The shadow is a tiny bit misplaced considering the light source, it should be moving towards the front of the picture, and only slightly angled to the bottom left corner. this might help. And this should be helpful, too.Another tip for lighing, the left side of the horse needs to be darker because it's actually in the shadow of the cave. The tail could do with some more wispy bits, however, considering you don't have a tablet, it's really, really good! Finally, you'll probably have to draw the horses hooves in because it looks like the original image was grassy, and there's no grass in the cave so it just looks a little bit odd.I hoped that helped. :)
