Way to many new breeds
Farewell's Paint Horses {I'm getting there} April 6th, 2013 3:19:35pm 1,034 Posts |
Does anyone else think that? There are too manybreeds and not enough players to stick with them. The caspian horse was added a few months ago and now i am about to be the only breeder. I think they should stop adding more and take inactive ones off. Players should just be happy with what we already have! /end rant

IMO, we can't have it both ways... no one willing to share, but everyone is upset that their is no community among breeders... It's not up to the staff to regulate everything and force communities to emerge by restricting the number of breeds or associations.. It's up to the people breeding the animals to do it. And if they're not willing to work at it, they don't really have a right to complain. Though I agree 100% with the restrictions on adding breeds and I also think we could stand to lose a few associations to make things a bit less spread out.I always do backups of my popular breeds and sell them off, as well as buy other breeders babies if they have them. Most of my breeds, I'm the only breeder or there is only one other person.. if I get a request to do backups (which I have for several of my breeds) I'll gladly do them and do a baby trade or something to mix lines. I've also tried training animals to a certain age and then selling them off cheap, but no one was interested, so I just kept them. Also, for the more rare breeds, I don't think you can really /expect/ people to want to breed it and take your foals (unless they signed up to help get it added) as much as you can with a more popular breed, so that's another thing to consider when you're starting a breed. |

Totally agree Uni. If you take up a rare breed, YOU have to promote this breed like crazy, and be willing to train animals and give them away if you want to keep more out there.I also have a theory that if the breed is really struggling, you should breed your top quality animals AT LEAST 3 times and not feel like you are over breeding your animal, but doing an awesome favor to another player who could use that foal. This isn't so necessary with breeds like Arabians where there's enough variety out there.I know by doing the Endangered Breeds Association, we try to pick a breed that is is inactive, and give them at least a page again after a month (currently we are doing Kaimanawas and they had TWO left in the game under 21, and they weren't even being trained) and on a couple of occasions people have fell in love by finding out about them through us and have picked up the breed.I love sharing lines, and combining lines. To a point were I search out other breeders and message them myself if they are also interested in sharing. I managed to get one other player to breed to my 2 miller this way and I'm actually excited about it. I think people need to be MORE willing to share backups of their "holy" lines, and breeds wouldn't be dying off like they are.. a good example is Lollygag donating a foal to the EBA from drop dead beautiful lines. It helped our association get a ton of funds we are still using 2 months later and producing more endangered horses with, AND created another dedicated Azteca breeder. It's what the game should be about! You know you aren't going to make back the 800mill+ you spent in a good quality animals lifetime with the value of foals, so in my opinion, why not just give a baby away to another breeder who could use it? |

I agree totally, if my lines are out there, being trained and contributing to the future of HP, i'll be happy! especially with my Spanish Arabs and Welsh Cobs, be nice to see some more lines popping up :) not that any of them are anywhere near their point goals yet xD once the game grows and becomes half as popular as HL, I'm sure the economy will improve and money will be made from foals but for now, it's HP and I've really enjoyed my first month :D |

I don't like the PRIVATE lines. Thats ridiculous. I am new and have not bred any animals yet. But I have bought a couple horses off other people. Though its hard to find any second or more generation animals for sale. So far they are all store horses. But as soon as I start breeding they will be for sale, as well as some kept to continue the lines. I would not say there are too many breeds. The biggest problem is people who are not contributing their animals to the market. Though I do think that there are some associations that do not really make sense on HP. Like the Bookworms and the Ink? What does that have to do with horses or dogs? |

I would LOVE to share my lines. I am trying to get the Moriesians started and would be willing to share some! I was a big Trake breeder under Sleepy Hollow and the breeders and I at that time joined lines, some of which were awesome! Now there arent too may Trake breeders left, so I gave up that breed for now also. |

I honestly don't think there's too many breeds. I don't really think the number of breeds we have makes that much of a difference to breeder communities. Whether there's 100 breeds or 1000 doesn't really matter, its whether or not the people that breed them are willing to let their lines go public. Limiting the number of breeds we have wouldn't really work IMO. By limiting the breeds its as if we're trying to force people to breed more common ones and create communities. That's all very well and good for the ones who WANT to breed what we're offering, but someone else might not be interested and find a game that offers what they want. In the case of "breed this or nothing at all", there's going to be people who choose the "nothing at all" option and go somewhere else. The current rules for breed additions are excellent IMO. If someone wants a breed added, they need to create a small community before they even get it, and then they need to maintain it to keep the breed. It's like a trial run for new breeds, and if it doesn't work out in the end, it's removed. As for private lines, I don't think it's ridiculous. Frustrating yes, but not ridiculous. I understand why people keep their lines private; they work hard on them and the risk of someone messing them up feels too great to chance it. This is where we need to communicate more between ourselves. If you're interested in sharing lines with someone, ASK THEM if it's something they might look into. Bring it up with people in chat, create forum topics asking for interested parties to reply. Adranth posted a "sharing lines" topic not long ago and the response has been excellent.Basically it's up to each individual breeder to promote the heck out of your breed and draw in new breeders while showing existing ones that you can be trusted with their lines (and vise versa; them with yours). It's something we're ALL going to have to constantly work on. |

I really agree shaenne, but I think the number of breeds could still be cut back, so long as it's relatively easy for someone to get their breed added again(like my Black Forest Horse who was deleted but I worked on bringing it back) if they want something special... but if they DON'T want to go searching for that something special, then they can stick to the basic breeds which are already on here. Communities are created by people sharing, and going above and beyond the call of duty for special breeds. I know no one will pay me money to breed to my rare breed stallion who will be 3mill, but I want his lines out there.. so I gave a breeding away for free to the next best BFH breeder in the game just by sending a random message and asking. You just have to think, if HP all of a sudden created 1000 breeds, the relation to people who actually play/create generations is too small to support that. With you guys going through deleting inactive breeds it helps SO MUCH, and thankfully, it isn't too hard to get the breed back again should someone come along and want it again, by gathering other breeders. I also think this 1-2 baby thing from high quality animals is just nonsense. If the animal is an endangered breed, and has a whooping amount of of points, it shouldn't be frowned upon or considered "over-breeding" to breed him like 5 times and have have maybe 2-3 foals public to use. |

I think the breeds we have are plenty but at the same time not too many. The fact that breeds are relatively easy to get added compensates for the inactive ones being removed so it kind of works itself out in the end there.I understand the exclusivity of the 1-2 babies thing, but I also think it's a bit silly. I don't think it's really overbreeding at all to have 5-6 babies out of a horse, especially if the owner is distributing them among the public to get the breeder community going. They've worked hard on the animal AND they're more than willing to share with other breeders, so I don't really see why it's such a bad thing to create more of that for people who want to be in it.Egypt has a crazy amount of offspring and personally I think it makes him that much more awesome. He's an awesome horse and he has lots of awesome babies and the ones i've looked at are all coming along super well with their training. |

I think it would be awesome to find it a bit like RL that a stallion could go to public stud to breed to many mares with no issues. I dont get the over breeding thing at all |

I'll die if my tigers are taken... I saw you had them when I joined to poke around and I'm staying because of them. To be honest, I dont care if I'm alone. I'll keep breeding and sell my foals to the public to hopefully breed them into light. If there is one person dedicated to the breed- any breed I dont feel it would be fair to take them out. I've only been here a few days but have already invested alot in my stock and am about to buy a year membership... if tigers got taken I'd feel that was money wasted. |

I know EXACTLY how you feel luci, I was relatively new again and wanted to breed the black forest so bad, but the breed wasn't in the store anymore, so I rallied probably a month to get them added. If Tigers were to be taken off, you CAN get them again so you don't have to feel swindled! |

Also, the endangered breeds association works VERY HARD to keep a breed that is about to be deleted floating, with a blast of quality animals and graphics to be given away to a new breeder of them, to avoid in the future the work of finding of people to get them added again. If you feel a breed is severely at risk, talk to us at the EBA to get it featured, we can usually get about 1 page more of quality animals back on the game and at least one new breeder of them :) |

"Egypt has a crazy amount of offspring and personally I think it makes him that much more awesome. So I think the Tigers should be safe :) |
