Alright, so over the course of two years, we've had a few horses, so I'll just work down the list. Some are not ours, some are. Oreo- 3yr old paint cross gelding He wasn't our horse. It's a really long story, but to make it short, Russell's(my bf) ex wife married Russell's dads best friend and they ended up asking if they could keep the ex's daughters horse at his dad's place since they didn't have a place to put it at their place. Anyway, so they had this horse that they wanted us to work with because he wasn't broke, so me being a horse lover I started working with him. Strangly enough I was the only person who could do anything with him without him acting up. We had him for about four months when I came to the farm one day and found that Oreo wouldn't come to anyone. It took me about 45 minutes to get him to finally relax and let me walk up to him. Come to find out he had tears down one side of his face and that glassy film on his eye. Like his eye had been scratched or something. So, I asked everyone that lived there(at bfs dads house) and one guy did see that the ex wife's farrier/ex boyfriend had been out riding him or doing his feet, whatever. I guess Oreo had acted up and the dude took the back strap of my saddle off and started beating him with it. In which caught him in the eye, could have blinded him! So, I treated it and kept it clean for a couple hours and the ex wife just came at the right time and I asked her what happened and she told me that he'd run into a tree branch when they road him. I lost it. The next day he was taken away, because I got in the middle of it and I haven't seen him since. The place they took him I guess the exwife didn't pay her board or something and I was told the place sent him for glue cause no one could handle him.. I'm really hoping that didn't happen though. In my opinion the exwife didn't need another horse, but alas that didn't happen.
Red/Scooter- 2yr old aqh gelding So, this is exwife's horse #2 for her daughter. They bought him fall of 2015 as a "1yr old"(I honestly don't think he was one till spring of 2016 but what do I know?). Anyway, exwife thought she could get him trained and ready for barrel racing by summer 2016. Mind you the vet came in april of 2016 and said the horse wouldn't be ready to start training under saddle till march/april 2017, considering then he'd be a 2 yr old. So for two months the horse sat out at the farm with the only human interaction was from my father inlaw and us, because they couldn't do anything with him. I started working with him, which I knew I shouldn't, but I couldn't just let him do nothing. Around June of 2016 I caught the daughter in the saddle. I had been training him to take the saddle and bit so that way spring 2017 he'd be pretty easy to train under saddle. I told her mother what would happen if he was broke early and of course, mother believed daughter that she'd never, ever been on him. Since the flood of 2016 in Iowa they had to move their horses off the farm. The farm is on river land, so the whole pasture was gone. They haven't been back since. So, I really hope they aren't riding him. BTW, he named him Red when he first came to the farm, because they hadn't named him and still didn't have a name after two months. He got used to Red so when they began naming him Scooter he wouldn't listen. XD When we first got him
eating in the new field. he always seemed to stay around me when I was laying in the grass.
Mono- 11yr old ex-barrel racer aqh gelding What a name, right? lol. That was his barn name, I am unsure of what his registered name was, but I know it had Mono in it. This was another horse that the exwife had bought for her daughter since Red had not fit the bill. Obviously they were dumb and thought Red would be ready to go, so why not buy a horse that had bucked two riders off, was retired from barrel racing for a reason? They didn't ask the reason, they only cared about the fact that he'd won ribbons, not the fact that he had arthritis and had tender feet. Anyway, from the moment they bought him, the daughter was too scared to ride him. Always had me lung him out and then ride him for 10 or so minutes before she'd even try to get on. Until one day he decided he wasn't going to listen to her and took off to the barn. For ten or so months all she'd do with him was walk him around. Refused to get on him. So, they asked if we'd ride him out and get more time on him, so we did. After vet check to be sure he was completely sound. I fell for this guy, just like any other horse I am around. He quickly became my second favorite mount. haha. I wish I knew more about his history and pedigree, because he's got the aqh booty and he's just amazing. Floats almost when you ride and and man does he have a motor. Sadly, when the flood came, he was moved with Red and I haven't seen him since. I am actively stalking the exwife on fb to see if him or Red go up for sale though. haha. when we first got him first workout of 2016 thanks to me lol pretty boy
Ginger- 11yr old twh/qh mare She was bought two years ago for my sister inlaw back in arkansas. She was a hunting mount/shooting mount. Her papers say qh on them, but I believe she's a gaited horse. We haven't done a DNA test or anything, so the TWH part could be wrong, but she's got a perfect gait like one and picks up her feet like one, so I am just going with it. haha. She's a dead broke horse and my daughter Alexis usually rides her when we go out to ride, because Russell's sister doesn't ride all that often. she's basically a pasture pet to Mandy. She's one of the horses that go up to Yellow River in the mounds with us. She's clumsy and just a dork. XP two years ago look at them muscles don't take a picture!
Apple- 5yr old Appaloosa gelding So this guy came from Arkansas as well. The boyfriends family on his dad's side lives down there and his uncle Albert trains horses and all that. So basically Apple was his mount, but we ended up getting him because he was too wild for everyone down there apparently, but in all truths, he's not a horse for everyone. He just likes to test new riders and if he can't get away with things he tries, then he settles right down and never tries it again. xD he's always the lead horse when out on rides. If he gets passed, he'll get mad and trot right on past haha. He doesn't walk usually, he prances. Most of the time he is the horse that is covered in sweat before you even leave the driveway he's that excited all the time. For a five year old though he knows his stuff. neck reins, moves off of leg pressure, knows vocal commands. He's extremely smart and he's my #1 go to ride if I'm not riding my own horse. I now know what it's like to try to keep a white horse clean.. doesn't happen. xD he's a perfect brat though
Phoenix- 4-5yr old Paso Fino Cross I Saved the best for last. My own horse that I own 100% finally. I got her christmas day. We drove 9 1/2 hours to Arkansas to get her. The bfs uncle is getting on in age, in his late 70s I believe so he couldn't handle the 3 horses he had. I was originally supposed to get this big black gelding, but when we seen Phoenix and how skinny she was from having the colt on her till he was at least 7 months, we decided to take her instead. here is pics from the day we brought her home She was practically skin and bones. D= I hated looking at her and knowing she'd been starved. Maybe not intentionally, because I know the bfs uncle loves horses, but maybe his age played a factor in it all, I don't know. a month after having her she was still underweight but her winter coat hid a lot of it Three months later after putting on some more weight, I started working with her. There really wasn't much to teach her considering she knew pretty much everything. April 2016 And finally as of Sept/Oct of 2016 I can say Phoenix is out of the woods. She's still on weight supliments and beet pulp with hay and grain as well. We are just working on her top line and she should be good to go. Taking extra precautions for this winter. She's got her own blanket so she doesn't get cold. xD
my oldest stole her from me on our trip to yellow river lol might have to get myself my own horse it looks like
That is all of them. =D Currently we just have Apple, Ginger, and Phoenix at our place, but we are looking for 1-2 more in the next year to add to the herd. That way everyone has a horse to ride when we go places. xD |

I was going to make a new post to add in the baby I got back in feb. 2017, but I am just going to add him here. xD Dexter - aqh(or that's what we were told, the old owners "lost" his paperwork apparently) Dexter is a rescue. It's a long, confusing story and I don't really know how much is true to be honest, but here goes. So, I found this girl who needed to rehome him, because her horses were being mean to him. She'd rescued him a few weeks before this from another girl who'd got him from her vet(his mom was in very poor condition and the vet wouldn't release her), he wasn't weaned, so she had to bottle feed him and once he was fully weaned and good to go, she sold him to the girl I bought him off of. Now, when I got him, I was told he was 10 months old and gelded. I had my vet out to do my yearly shots and check ups at the middle of April and come to find out he was actually 6-8months old in april(which puts him 8-10months now) and he was not gelded. So, basically at this point i have no idea who was telling the truth and who was lying. Some people just idk. being honest would go so many ways. ANYWAYS, when I got him, he was completely skiddish and didn't like anyone. pretty sure he's been smacked around by someone. However, in the 4 months I've had him, he's calmed down quite a bit. he's still a bit scared of things, but he's a stud colt still(till august, vet wants him as close to a year and warm out before we cut him). I think he's come a long way though from when we first got him. His name was Dax when we got him, but I didn't really like it, so he's been Dexter ever since. First night & week we had him. he had bite marks everywhere and lost hair and ribs and hips sticking out. New halter and letting the kids braid his mane My daughters new best friend winter hair starting to fall off new look xD And a random picture of Phoenix :P |

After a long battle with a sickness the vet couldn't even pinpoint, We lost Phoenix at the end of July. The vet thinks she'd been sick since the baby was weaned off her and that was the reason we fought to keep weight on her and everything. So, she's burried in the back pasture and will always be on the farm. |
