Exchanging presents?
trig 🍂 what a wonderful day November 22nd, 2016 10:32:56pm 3,612 Posts |
So the other day at work I was telling one of the ladies I work with that I was excited for my younger sister to get her Christmas present from me. It's just these different types of tea leaves and a tea infuser but I think she'll really like it. But she had made this off handed comment of "oh, you still give your sisters gifts?" It just got me thinking that we may be odd for doing that. We're all still close and generally try and get something we put some thought into. Christmas has always been a pretty big celebration in our family and we decorate and the whole nine yards. So it's just been a normal thing to do. It there an age or something that people stop giving gifts to people? Am I just out of the loop? |

My family still give gift. Mind you as we have gotten older, gifts are more unique, symbolic something they would really like or find funny (like that year I bought my brothers remote controlled cars - They are 10 and 12 years older so they were late 20's early 30's). I think its an individual thing! |

I actually found out that my family is weird! Never exchanged gifts with my siblings, but our parents always got us presents (and still do, lol) |

Not weird at all. Having only just gotten a job late last year, I use Christmas and Birthdays to give back to my family for all the things they've given to me over the years, and it makes me extremely happy to do it. I wouldn't take other people's comments about it to heart. You do you. Your family sounds awesome, and that's what matters. |

My family has always exchanged gifts, as do us siblings to each other. Who doesn't love getting presents?! :P Our extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents) even exchanged gifts until about 5-6 years ago. (There got to be over 50 family members with all the in-laws and great grandchildren.) |

I dislike giving gifts over 13 mainly because my in laws all band together to get us something but we can't do that for them. Yay big families |

My side of the family does! Joel's family does not. I always get something for my grandma and my grandpa, and last year we baked cookies and made fudge for everyone and packed them up all cute-like. And then Joel and I generally set a price limit for each other's presents, or we go in on something together. Like a few years ago instead of giving each other gifts, we both paid for half of a new TV. And then my grandparents get lots of things for everyone, and my dad usually gives me money. Then on my mom's side of the family, my grandma gives everyone something, but that's about the extent of it for the adults. We used to do a secret santa, but haven't for a few years. My siblings and I don't exchange gifts, but I'm the oldest, so none of them are really in the financial situation to do gifts. |

The last few years I haven't been in the right financial situation to give gifts... so I hate it when people give me gifts lol. I just try to do cards at the very least with a poem I've written myself, or a summary of a good memory with that person. I try to do this for my Mother, Step Dad, Dad, Step Mom, Sister and Grandma. I need to plan out next year with homemade gifts, just wish I was more creative!! |

i send family cards and sometimes giftcards, depending how i am doing financially. Like i get my grandparents gift cards to a grocery store they go to, something I know they need and would use. For my parents my mom likes foxeseseses so just send her something cute lol dad is really religious so i find something his speed. My brother and his family get family gifts as i call, they have 6 kids and pei pei cant afford individual things so i end up sending them goodies from the area im from, like last year i sent them huckleberry jam and stuff from spokane haha :) stuff they all would enjoy. And someyears I cant send anything so I just send them cards and remind them i love them all. And one day ill be rich and spoil all my nephews haha
** majorty of my funds go to my furbabies for christmas XD but shhh :P lol |

My family used to draw names for gifts, but I don't live anywhere near my family anymore so I haven't participated in years. I try to send homemade gifts (aka make Cora color on things) every year when financially possible. Shipping is killer when you're trying to send to multiple people. |

We still exchange presents :) My sister is 34, I'm 29 and my brother is 12.
I don't think gifting with Christmas has any age limit ♥ |

My family don't really give each other official Christmas gifts anymore, we just spend time with each other now. I give baked goods as presents xD I think the actual Christmas (waking up and opening gifts) was for when we were kids but we're all grown up now! |

My brother is 10 years younger than me. I get him something usually. His birthday is the 10th so I'll usually combine presents. Link Tree |

Not weird! My family still gets gifts for each other. Including giving them to our in-laws (i.e. my brother in law). I think families are just lots different from each other. |
