I would love to get the Florida Cracker added http://www.floridacrackerhorses.com/index.htm They are a smaller cow horse ranging between 13.2 and 15.2 hands and come in a wide variety of colors but solid colors and grays are more common. They originate from the Spanish horses that were left behind in the 1500s and over time evolved into what is now known as the florida cracker horse. "Florida Cowmen were nicknamed 'Crackers' because of the sound made by their cow whip cracking the air. This name was also given to the small agile spanish horse essential for working spanish cattle. Over the years, Cracker horses have been known by a variety of names: Chicksaw pony, seminole pony, marsh tackie, prairie pony, florida horse, florida cow pony, grass gut and others." During the Great Depression, cattle were moved from the dust bowl into florida so changes needed to be made in raising cattle. Eventually the florida cracker horse got pushed aside by the larger and stronger quarter horse. Since the breed was no longer in demand the numbers started to decline. The florida cracker was saved by several families that continued to breed them for personal use.

It looks like they were already a breed on here at one point, so I believe if you just message an admin and let them know that you can get them added back right away! |

My brain keeps telling me they're one of those breeds that occasionally throws gait, too. It's rare in Spanish horses but not unheard of via the tiger horse. That's where you see the Indian Shuffle in stock horses, and the Paso gaits. Link Tree |

Added! Fathoms is correct! If it was previously a breed on HP (and an actual breed, not a fantasy one), we will re-add it without the 5 breeders. |
