So last week my roommates decided they wanted a fish tank... Long story short that was a bit of a disaster. Test your water first folks! Turns out we have... Very less than ideal water parameters for the breeds we were stocking, no one warned us that we were over stocking, no one was like "hey Tiger barbs are jerks and will tear the fins clean off your skirt tetras!"

We've got two (tail-less) skirt tetras left but they're on the mend. One is a blue glo fish the other is a standard black, named Alaska and Chad Michaels respectively. When the tank finishes cycling we're planning on having a school of 5 of the tetras (the other 3 being glo fish... I know we plan on having a Ru paul but I don't know what to name the other two. I'm rooting for Sharon Needles and Violet Chachki.) and a few ghost shrimp for the "pit crew."

Yes it is the drag queen tank. I'll take pictures of it when Uhhhhhh... Everyone is looking better. Chad is getting his fins back but they're both a bit skittish still. I might get the shrimpies today.

My friends also picked me up a BEAUTIFUL male crowntail Betta who I've named Oberon after the Faerie King. Here he is!

Pretty!

Sounds like a headache with the tanks, though.

Gorgeous betta!

I know next to nothing about fish, but the people selling them should.  I'm suprised they didn't tell you when you were buying them.  That's a bummer. -_-

Everything has been stable for the past few days but this weekend was a nightmare between our senior cat coming down with an infection and all the fish nonsense.

I almost came home with a second betta today though. o_o he's so freaking pretty. We got our shipment in at work yesterday and I came in to a black and BRIGHT ORANGE one.

But then I remembered rent is a thing that exists and tanks are not cheap to set up.

If he's still alive in a couple weeks though...

Also yeah... The first petsmart we went to told us nothing. The second one we went to told us that they wouldn't have let us leave with 6 fish and a brand new 10 gallon tank. Then we went to a locally owned place and the guy took us aside and explained everything and gave us a bottle of a much better water pre-treat and some other general advice... I'm probably going to swing up there this weekend to pick up some little shrimpies for the tetras. 99.999999% sure Oberon would just eat them.

Betas honestly are crazy easy keepers and don't need a bunch of room.

The majority of mine would live for 5 years.

I generally give tanks an hour to circulate but I also up my filter size so it pushes more water faster.

I really want my 55 gal setup again but our foundation is pier and beam and the tiles are uneven and E is a climber so maybe in a few years again.

I only want Koi! I want a nice sized Koi pond so I can stick my feet in the water and get little fishy kisses.

Also, this thread is reminding me that there is a Chinese restaurant that has a big fish tank and now I want Chinese food.

Definitely not in the finances to set up a second tank at the moment. No matter how bad I want to rescue Halloween boy from my idiot coworkers.

However all our fishies are now stable and happy. So there's that.
