Slow WiFi

Hello!
I turn here because when I was heavily into Horseland I found I was way more up to speed with computer issues so I thought some players would have good ideas. : )
Basically my Macbook running OS 10.12 is SUPER slow with loading internet pages. Like it takes 5-10 seconds to enter a show. My first thought is spyware but I'm not familiar with free programs. I did download Malwarebytes but not sure it made a difference. This is pretty sudden, so am a bit worried!
(obviously rebooted computer and router etc) |

There are a lot of things which can cause a computer or browser to run slowly, so to help diagnose: Which browser are you using? Is it the latest version? (Sometimes if a browser is depreciated, it will slow down and needs an update.) Do you have this problem on just one browser or all browsers? (If it's just one browser, either it needs to be updated or it's an issue with the browser itself having adware on it - adware is not necessarily spyware, you can google how to get rid of it, if you're seeing ads where you shouldn't (like on HP) that's a good sign that this is your problem.) Is the issue with all sites or just one site? (If it's like this with all sites and all browsers, it could be an issue with your computer itself or with your internet. You could check how much memory is left on your laptop, because you may need to delete things to make room and free up processing power, or if you run a lot of programs or tabs at once that could be your issue. You may also need a new modem or router, since they have a finite life, and eventually need to be replaced. If all else fails, you should contact your internet service provider and they will give you advice for how to run a speed test and be able to help.)
I hope one of those suggestions helps! :). |

Hi Sam!
Thank you for such a great reply! It turns out the ISP was down for the entire province and I was just experiencing the preliminary slow downs at that point. They got it back up and running though!
Thank you again! |
