Hello all! I started playing Horseland way back in 1998 with a good friend of mine. We both left after all the changes happened and came over here, but life happened and we both sort of drifted away from online role plays. I tried going back to Horseland a couple times over the years, but nothing ever stuck. It was sooo dead I just couldn't get back in to the game. I remembered this game and decided to give it another try! It's been years since I've played and I have no idea what I'm doing. Things have definitely changed since I was last here. I have tons of questions (mainly about prices for services, etc) and I haven't decided what I'm going to start breeding yet. But I wanted to pop in a say hello to everyone here! I miss being part of an active community.

I also want to get back into making layouts and graphics. Are there any sites that you recommend to get me started? Any players that I might be able to get advice from or pay to do some coding for me? I've seen so many beautiful layouts and graphics on here it's inspired me!

First of all, welcome back! I'm not sure what you like in terms of horse and dog breeds, but I breed quite a few and I'm willing to sell backups! Since I'm the Finnhorse ambassador though, I gotta recommend that breed :D

As for services, graphics really depends on your skills and how much people are willing to pay. You can make a few premades and sell them in auctions. If you keep getting similar bids, I'd say that the average amount could be your price for custom orders. For coding, you can try HP's new layout generator (there's a link on top of the box where you paste coding) or you can get players to do it for you/learn from them. The ones that come to mind are Chaotic (724), Ares (494), Aoi Haru (1424), and Audacia (17506).

If you're gonna offer training, people charge anywhere between 100-200k if the player has enter-all, and I suppose 200-250k without enter-all. Not sure about prices for account sitting, though. Someone fill us in, please!

Breeding

Like tana said, this truly depends on what breed you want to get into. This could be based off your real pets, an animal you work with or knew, your favorite breed or one that just interests you! We have gotten a lot of new breeds added lately such as the Korean Jindo Dog, Florida Crackers and Flametas to name just a few. We have also gotten the Breed Ambassadors added to the list, which is very similiar to a studbook or breed directory of sorts, this may help point you in the right direction too. Your safest bet - although not a typical rule of thumb or required - would be to choose a popular breed on the game, which you can find via Search for both horses and dogs. Usually, it is search for 10 years and under and any breed that has more than 20 pages that are breedable is considered very popular and anything with 1 - 10 pages is considered a rare breed. I would just browse through the search or forum posts of most recent auctions to get your bearings on the going prices/popularity for breeds, this may help you lean on a breed more easily too.

Layouts & Graphics

At the moment, graphics are actually not as in high demand and the going prices are lower than what they were 2-3 years ago when I played {I just recently returned from a hiatus myself}. The auctions are pretty empty, but I do see many requests for animal graphics or custom graphics. Coding services is very high in demand, so if you're good with code, I'd highly recommend going into such a service; some very good coding sites that I have used before are: Quackit, W3schools and Code Academy. They're easy to work on and will help you get the basis knowledge of coding. As for looking for coders, tana has already provided some names: Memoire (#1207), Chaotic (#724), Ares (#494), Aoi Haru (#1424), and Audacia (#17506) and Monnie (#1802) but their prices vary.

Welcome! I pretty much agree with everything tana and Equ said about which animals you want to breed and graphics/coding. HP Helper (#40689) has some free resources (layouts and pictures) and also gives free pointed animals to new players, maybe you could start out with a pair from them? It's a great page to check out. We also have a "Breed of the Month" where Sam picks a rare breed (alternating between dog and horse) and you can enter to win a pointed pair of that breed, if you're interested in a rarer breed :)

We also have a layout generator that might help you get started on learning coding, since you can mess around with it a little, and sell it on here.

Also, our Help pages are really in-depth and might answer a lot of questions you may have about game play, but also feel free to ask something in chat, message a staff member (gold or silver horseshoes next to our names) or ask here on the forums!

Thank you all so much! You're all wonderful! The information is very, very helpful! I'm going to have a lot of reading ahead of me haha. First thing I'll do is pick a breed then it's off to learn some coding. I've definitely fallen behind the times >.< And I'll try and stop by the chat when I get the chance. Haven't been on one of those in a looong time.
