So I live about 30 minutes out of town now and there are a lot of kangaroos that venture onto the roads and unfortunately, get hit. Danny stopped to move one away from the middle of the road last night when he was coming home at around 9pm, and i'm glad he did. When he got out of the car there was a tiny baby sitting next to the dead adult crying out. He scooped her up and brought her home.

I've got a guy from WIRES coming to collect her on Monday. I have done this a few times before and our vet clinics are quite full and busy right now so he asked if i'd be willing to look after her until Monday. Of course! I have some emergency formula on hand and I am buying some age-specific joey formula tomorrow.

This little girl is approx 5-6 months old. She can stand and move around, her ears are erect and her eyes are wide and bright. She is referred to as a "velvet" as she is covered in fine, velvet-like fur. I weighed her last night and she weighed 1.15kg. She is uninjured, in good health and is bright and alert! We don't think she was outside for very long, maybe an hour or two.

It's a lovely experience but so devastating at the same time. To think that if Danny didn't stop to move the dead adult off the road, he wouldn't have found this baby and goodness knows what might have happened to her. It's also just heartbreaking to picture her sitting there crying out not knowing why her mother isn't getting up. It actually made me cry a little lol.

Still no word from WIRES about the assessor, so now she has a room. It's basically a "stuff" room with a crap ton of boxes full of random crap.. but now it's doubling as ruby's room.

Legit, she is ADORABLE

The guy from WIRES came and took her yesterday. No warning, nothing about the assessor, he just showed up and told me he'd been instructed to take her. I was outside with her when he showed up. It was legit like something out of a movie. He picked her up and she flipped out and got loose and came back to me, he picked her up again and got her into the crate in his car but he didn't latch the door properly and it flung open when she flipped out again and she bounded out and came back to me a second time. I got one last cuddle before I put her in the crate myself and closed the door. It was devastating. She had no idea what was going on.

These past few days she had been hopping out of her pouch and coming to snuggle with me on the couch before her last feed of the night and bed time. She was just starting to get the hang of potty training and she learned her way around the whole house and would bound around like she owned the place.

I miss her like crazy :'( I knew this was a possibility but considering how strongly joeys bond i'm surprised and frankly quite angry that they left it so long and allowed her to get so attached before ripping her away with literally no warning.

omg, shae, that's horrible!! Poor Ruby!! :'(

I'd make a complaint against them for their handling of the situation. For how they showed up out of the blue with no warning AND handlled Ruby with such incompetence. That's just so cruel to the both of you and so disrespectful =(. 

awww.. poor ruby thats so unfair to you and her.. they should have gave you a warning..  like a couple days ahead of time or picked her up before you got attached to her
