Loopholes: USD = HPD?

I noticed about a week ago that specifically on HMF, a lot of people are selling HPD for USD. It's against the rules and I did message Sam about it but there isn't much she can do because who knows for sure if the person posting under someone's HP name is really that person? She doesn't have access to IP archives on HMF, which I personally think needs to change.

Without Sam, we wouldn't even have HP and I find it extremely disrespectful when I see other players doing this! I *earn* my HPD from selling graphics and such. It's another way of loop-holing the system and frankly, I think it needs to stop. It isn't fair to other players who can't afford to BUY game money for real money. Honestly, I just refuse to because it is AGAINST THE RULES.

I think there needs to be something done about this quickly, but in the meantime I am solemnly asking you all (as fellow players of HP) *not* to take part in trading USD for HPD or any other type of currency. It's immoral. Have some decency and quit cheating.

It wouldn't matter if she had access to IP archives. Anything organized off-site cannot be punished for, and sam's said that herself. She'll demod for it but she can't ban/suspend for it.I'm not really sure what you mean by the IP archives not being accessible needing to change.. Are you suggesting that Sam be given access to IP addresses on the HMF? Because that's just never going to happen unless she's made a forum moderator in the games section of the HMF, a global moderator, or an administrator.

I've already commented to you about this in messages - but I'll repeat it again here for the sake of everyone seeing it:- As noted in our TOS, we do not accept liability for things that happen on third party websites (I won't quote it here, since you are all capable readers, it can be found under our Trade section in the Terms of Service). By enforcing our rules off of the game and monitoring actions and trade we would be accepting some liability for it, which is a dangerous thing for us to do on a website we have NO control over.- We also have no REAL proof that these people are the same people who are on HP. Let's pretend you, Delphic bought money from Shae (sorry, guys, haha, you're just the first two people who posted here and therefore my examples) on any third party website - how do we know that it's not some random person trying to get you in trouble posting that they will buy money from Shae? We don't have access to their IP logs, email address lists, or any of it. And I'm not comfortable banning someone for something I can't prove, because often it results in an unhappy player and a ban I have to reverse. And sure, there's always legal action. But the same issue of proof still applies. Plus legal action is expensive, time-consuming, and resource-zapping. Unless there's a big claim, threatening a lawsuit is kind of silly.I wish that no one would sell money off of the game, or break our rules offsite. And I wish that everyone would play by the rules and not constantly try to find loopholes and other methods of cheating. But enforcing our rules off of the game is sticky territory, and could get us into a lot more trouble than it's worth, unfortunately.

The HMF is in no way affiliated with HP, other than that a lot of their members are from HP. HMF also is not solely dedicated to HP-related activities. Many of the people on there have never played HP and never plan to. Sam has no jurisdiction over what goes on on HMF and if she were to get involved over there, it would just be bad news for her. For example legal issues when people get scammed out of real money and coming whining to Sam, demanding that she refund them the money because it's related to HP. I don't think it's necessary to open that big a can of worms to punish the small proportion of people who engage in off-site trading for real money. Also, it's hard to get enough legitimate proof. If someone is trading money through HP messages, we can track the paper trail of the transaction and pin point exactly who is cheating. You can't expect the admins on the HMF to want to allow Sam free reign over their 3rd party website. They don't do it for any other SIM games, so why should HP be any different? I also don't imagine Sam really cares to be over there anyway. If people choose to 'cheat the system' in that way, then that's on them. I don't purchase HPD and I'm doing just fine. I have more HPD than I know what to do with, so I don't see how it's hurting me at all. If it came to the point where the only way to do ANYTHING was to invest serious cash in buying HPD, then maybe Sam would have to step in somehow and make some changes. But at this point, there's really no reason to be upset over it since it literally has no effect on anyone except those buying and selling. Sure, some people are able to get a bajillion points on their horses from endless income to spend on tickets, but it's not like it's impossible to do without cheating and it's not like thats the /only/ way to play the game.

I guess I just agree with Sam. People just shouldn't cheat the system. What's the fun in a game when you get everything without trying? I don't get it :b It's like glitching in Skyrim to get to level 80.
