Every month on HP we pick a rare-on-HP horse or dog breed to showcase on the game! Along with our spotlight, we do a giveaway of a pointed pair of that breed, drawn as close to the 15th of the next month as possible.

We skipped September's spotlight, so we are starting fresh this month with a new breed and giveaway!

This month's breed spotlight is: Selle Francais

About Selle Francais

The Selle Francais is a French horse breed known for it's jumping ability, but also skilled at Dressage and Eventing. They are most often bay or chestnut in color. However, due to the diversity of the breeds used to make up today's Sell Francais horses, there are no specific breed standards for appearance. They are a sporthorse with balanced and powerful gaits, which makes them ideal for show jumping.

Selle Francais on HP

There are currently only FOUR Selle Francais's on HP under 21 right now.

We are giving away a store pair of Selle Francais with 250k points each! To enter the giveaway, reply to this thread and tell us an interesting fact about any horse breed.

I really don’t need more breeds but I’m a sucker for show jumpers v-v Fun fact: Lipizzaners aren’t born with their white coat, it develops from around 6 years old ^^

My first breed ever was the Selle Français on HorseLand in 1999. I saw the post on FB for HP and had to come and try to get me some!

So fun horse fact, and very French indeed: The word Chivalry is derived from Old French 'cheval', meaning 'horsemanship'.
More specifically, pulled from Wikipedia:

In origin, the term chivalry means "horsemanship", formed in Old French, in the 11th century, from chevalier (horseman, knight), from Medieval Latin caballārius.[8] The French word chevalier originally means "a man of aristocratic standing, and probably of noble ancestry, who is capable, if called upon, of equipping himself with a war horse and the arms of heavy cavalryman and who has been through certain rituals that make him what he is".[9] In English, the term appears from 1292 (note that cavalry is from the Italian form of the same word).

Fun Fact : The Przewalski’s horse is the only truly wild horse species still in existence. The only wild population is in Mongolia. There are however numerous populations across the world of feral horses e.g. mustangs in North America. (Source: Onekind)

Ooh - - "A horse's stomach should always make gurgling noises, an absence of them can mean colic." Now I want to go up and listen to a horse's stomach!!

The quarter horse is named that because the breed is the fastest horse to run a quarter mile! 😁
