Just a heads up, I'll be talking about losing my dog (and bird) below.

----------

----------

I recently lost my 10 year old rescue Aussie, 4 days before my birthday on October 21 (also 4 days before I would have had him exactly 9 years, we picked him up on my birthday in 2008). I lost him exactly 3 months after I, suddenly and unepectedly, lost my 13 year old cockatiel. This year has been a bit of a mess for me when it comes to my animals.

Anyway, I got his ashes back last Friday and I'm finally at the point where I've started looking at memorial jewlery and I'm slightly overwhelmed. I know I don't want his ashes involved at all but I was hoping maybe y'all may haveย some recommendations for businesses/sellers on Etsy/anything like that? I'm really worried about buying something and the quality not being that great or just something going wrong in general (yaaaaay anxiety).

I'm also open to other memorial ideas in general. I'm planning on getting his ID number from the rescue tattooed, I have art that my parents did for my birthday last year, and I just got a photobook from Shutterfly but I'd love some other ideas if anybody has one!

Hmm I don't know of any memorial jewelry makers on etsy at all. My dad passed away a few months ago and I toyed with the idea of making some his ashes into a diamond.ย

Where I live there's a local glass maker/artist and I commisioned her to make a little glass capsule urn thing to put some of my mom's and dad's ashes in. She is going to make them into a hanging glass art piece with other capsules that have some of the things they liked in it. It's kind of like a memorial art piece, I suppose? I got the idea because I wanted an urn that was very special and she was also my mom's favorite glass artist.

Anyways, maybe you could do something like that? Like, commision a local artist (it doesn't have to be glass, it could be a wood worker or something) to make a special memorialized urn for them. Not sure if that's the direction you were going. At any rate, I'm sorry for your losses :(

Thank you both.

Edit: WHOOPS, there was a whole post but it got eaten. So, thank you both! I love the idea of a memorial art piece, I know a few artist friends so I'll probably actively look into that! I have a shelf that's been dedicated as "his shelf" at this point so it would be lovely to have a really nice piece of memorial art to put there as well.

I'm sorry to hear about losing your pets ): I have a memorial keychain and bracelet from my mare that we recently had to put down. I'm not sure if the girl who did my bracelets does stuff with ashes, but I don't know why she wouldn't be able to. I know her personally and she's super talented.

Her business is Cloverleaf Leather Works (https://www.facebook.com/Cloverleafleatherworks/?ref=br_rs).

Could do a shadow box too which is similiar to a shelf but maybe a tad nicer!

I know its a tad late, but my friend had her dogs ashes made into a pawprint type rock with her name on it.

So sorry to hear about your Aussie baby. Never easy to lose a fur friend/child.

We lost our golden to cancer (Hemangiosarcoma) 4 years ago...still miss her every day.ย

ย

You may want to contact your local Veterinarian about what cremation service they use and if they have the ability to make memorial beads/jewelry.

We used Agape Pet Services...in the MD, VA, and NC area; they offer all kinds of keepsakes. A link for you:ย ย

Thoughts, prayers, and hugs to you. Let me know if you need anything; I'm happy to chat! :)

Thank you all so much! It's been difficult, he was the first dog we had that was "mine" so it's been an adjustment.

A shadow box is a brilliant idea,ย it would be much nicer then his things just sitting on a shelf. Plus I could put his collar and tags in it as well, it'd be nice to keep everything together like that.

The cremation service they use was actually lost in the Northern California fires, the crematorium and pet cemetary are still standing but everything else was burnt down unfortunately.

Peach, I may have to get something done from her involving my horses! Her work is fantastic!

So very sorry to hear about your pets passing :( That's never easy, never.

I've never purchased any of these products, but I did check a few reviews and the items seem to be nice quality.ย

I would suggest checking out this company -ย https://www.facebook.com/Ashesintoglass/

ย

It would allow you to wear jewelry with his ashes and carry them always with you.ย

ย

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm dreading the day when my old Lab goes, but this is what I plan on doing with some of her ashes at that point.
