I think everone has a little bit of a different opinion on what makes a "rare" breed to be honest. I personally think any breed with 3 or less active breeders is "rare-ish" but with so many to choose from, a LOT of breeds fit this category lol. Another way to think about it is searching to see how many horses or dogs there are of that breed under retirement age (21 for horses and 16 for dogs) and kind of gage it on that. When I look them up that way I like to think anything with only 2 pages or less is rare. But you can also look at the registration requirements for the Rare Dogs Club and Rare Horses Club (which may change when the president changes) to give you more of an idea!!

Listing out the rare breeds would take a while and I'm at work at the moment... but if you had a breed in mind and was wondering if it was considered rare let me know and I can tell you what I think :)

As for what breeds are easy to sell... that's tough to answer. I buy most of my mates/ new animals at the store. Sometimes I will buy lined animals as foals/pups from other players but I haven't really seen a lot of people training to sell, if that's what you are thinking - unless it is a breed that someone is trying to make more popular and they offer them to players to help start their lines. - Someone else may be more helpful than me on this question!!!!

I think most players don't mind buying and selling or trading backups once and a while. So if you breed something with at least one other active breeder you may be able to successfully sell your foals/pups.

I am very biased when it comes to some breeds because my pixels are my babies lol but IMO AQHs, Andalusians, Appaloosas, Arabians, Friesians, ISHs, and Paints are some of the most popular.

I agree with San, many breeds have very few active breeders, and many have zero breeders. If a breed is active, there will be animals under retirement age with a good points to age ratio (think at least 60k per trainable year). San mentioned some popular breeds, so if you're looking for something easy to sell, go for one or more of those. I'd also add Thoroughbreds to the list of popular horse breeds, as well as Straight Egyptian Arabians.

The same idea applies to dogs, and off the top of my head, popular breeds are Rottweilers, Pitbulls, German Shepherds, and Direwolves.

In the end, though, you should breed what you wanna breed. If you become the ambassador of a breed, you can help make it more popular. That's also possible without being an ambassador, you just gotta advertise and/or do giveaways. For example, I'm a breeder of Altai horses, but I'm not an ambassador. Still there's 2 or 3 active breeders, including myself. This is because I got the Altai into one of the breed spotlight giveaways, and I gave away 3 foals.

San & Tana have hit the nail on the head!

I don't have anything further to add but I hope these answers help your decision! :)

I agree with adeina. I'm not sure there is any other breeds to add. My suggestion would be to check out the horse and dog breeds by searching them under retirement age.

I will say that I've sold some backup arabians and some backup newfoundlands before, but it can be hit and miss sometimes. Just FYI. If you choose to breed arabians I have some starters that you may have :)

I agree with everything above :)

Easy to sell - Paint horses are typically easy to sell, but sometimes it can be hard. The market sky rockets and then bottoms out at times, I've had some foals and adults sell within the first hour, or first 24 hours. Then I've had some that haven't sold at all. I also breed German Shepherds, and it's basically the same way. Although sometimes it seems to be harder to sell them than the Paints. I have had good luck selling Boxers, I haven't been breeding them long but have sold a few pairs and they all got scooped up within the first 24 hours of advertising them.
