So, I seem to be coming back. Now the big question is... what breeds do I pick? I'm kind of leaning towards corgi's or german shepherds for the dogs. I would prefer to pick breeds that have at least a few other breeders, but need a few new bloodlines to boost it.

I have 0 ideas for horse breeds though, so throw some at me ^^

Firstly, welcome back to HP! 

Secondly, I always emphasize this, but the best way to start is to looking through the Breed Embassies; there are quite a few who fit your criteta of rare, but lineage availability and most are quite willing to sell you a back-up from their public lines or just a 100k trained store pair. 

I would also suggest browsing the Rare Breeds Club as it lists all the breeds that also fit what you're after. Between the two it should help you narrow down breeds. You could always do a page survey of the top 5 you like as well.

For horses it really depends on what you're looking for. Obviously breeds like Paints have a LOT of breeders which is so so so nice for finding new lines to breed in with your own. We're all pretty generous too when it comes to reasonably priced back-ups.

For dogs I'm trying to get Cattle Dogs more popular and have some lines I'll eventually be raffling off back-ups to so that future breeders can get some "old" blood. 

BUT there are a lot of great breeds out there and I think Equ's suggestion to check out the embassies is actually awesome. Here's the link to the embassy page so you can browse through if you haven't already!

Horse-wise; I've been looking at the embassy page and the rare breed club, but I'm still not sure. I want to focus on a breed that has a least a couple other breeders, but not so main-stream that they are everywhere. Moriesians looked interesting but it doesn't look like it's breeders are active anymore (there's none under 21 years)

I'm hard-pressed to think about favourite breeds because I love pretty much all of them equally ^^
