Club Term Limits

I wanted to open up a discussion about setting club presidency term limits after learning that the same player can be the president of the same club more than one month in a row. |

I know some people like to keep the same club for 10 months straight to get the achievement but I totally agree with this. I think only being able to hold twice in a row (or whatever, I'm just throwing out two months) would probably be a good thing and actually help promote more compeition within running for clubs if people can't monopolize. |

If there is more interest in clubs for an extended period, I would be open to this! Right now though, a lot of people run unopposed and every once in awhile we have a club that has no president and a mod needs to fill in for the month, so I don't think we have enough activity in the clubs to impose term limits. |

I totally agree with that Sam, and I understand that clubs aren’t exactly booming with interest. I know the ones on HL used to be hugely popular but I don’t really remember why that was. That being said, I don’t think it really helps the clubs gain popularity if someone new does decide to run but it’s the same people winning over and over again. I get for the less popular clubs it’s just something that happens, but especially with the additions of the new clubs, where there is tons of interest, it’s a bit discouraging as a player who wants to get the most out of the game. |

I was trying to remember why clubs on HL were so popular as well and I can't either!

Reno, right? I remember staying up wicked late on the last day of the month to get any last minute votes in. |

I like this idea! But I think if we did it you would have to swap out the achievement thing. Like instead of the 10 months in a row, get like a 3 month in a row one. That might already exist though lol. But I won the English term this month with 10 votes. I had two other people running against me but they obviously weren't too committed if I won with 10 votes. Not to be mean or anything. |

I was pretty committed but once I was down 300 votes I forfeited and planned to run for March. Now I might not run at all if it’s just going to be another landslide. |

That's where my comment came from. If someone has a feeling they're not going to win or knows they can't, why would they bother running at all? I also understand where Sam's coming from with them not being hugely popular atm. |

I can definitely see both sides of this. And if this were changed it would be nice to come up with a different achievement other than the 10 month achievement. |

Isn't there an acheivement for running a club for X amount of time? Or am I crazy? |

Yes, for 10 months you get an achievement. |

I am going to have to disagree on this one just because of the lack of participation in running for clubs. They've been really dead even after getting rid of associations so I'm not really sure how implamenting term limits would help the situation. = Some clubs people win unopposed with less than 10 votes. What happens if after 2 months no one else wants to run it, but now said player can't. Also - it would kind of be impossible to track and lock players out. For example, I have 40 upgrades, how would the club lock me out from running on all 40 accounts? As for the HL clubs I can only think they were so popular because there were way more players than there are here which created the competition. Unfortunately, we don't have that large of a player base. :( I sell all 40 of my votes every month, and out of all 24 clubs they have been purchased by 1 person this month. That's not uncommon either. Some months I don't sell any! What is uncommon is actual competition to run in the clubs. I think friendly competition is healthy and great for the economy as votes are a great way to supplement your income to keep upgrades alive. If you really want to win a certain club you just need to start way far ahead and just reserve reserve reserve! If February doesn't look like a month you can win, then start asking around to reserve votes for March. ☺ |

I have to agree with Sam and Tron. With the exception of the two new horse clubs, there's never really much competition for running to warrant putting a cap on it. |

why dont we just get rid of all but 2 clubs? then there would be competition! like keep All Horse and Performance Horse and All Dog and Working Dog? I know most would oppose due to the shows and points you get for each club you register in... Its funny the voting competition for the new clubs that no one really participates in anyways...i mean we have how many players and the same 3 to 5 are the ones who enter contests? |

i personally just dont allow any reserves for anything aside from show spots. My tickets and votes are fair game every month and ive only been asked (not bugged/pre paid) once to vote I do think maybe lowering the 10 month achievement to say 3 months or even 6months would be nicer just because having the same person run a club for 10 months could become stagnent for contests and what not |

Agreed with Tronic, I just don't see a need for this. As Sam also pointed out mods have to step in to run certain clubs at times due to lack of actvity with clubs. But I can also see both sides as well.
I do remember one thing about clubs on HL that was big was the chat board, we're you could advertised your horses/dogs for sale in the club. |

There's also a "3 consecutive terms as president of one club" achievement :) |

I def would not want to get rid of clubs! And I hadn't thought abut that 3 month achievement, def don't want to lose that one! I do wish clubs were more active competition wise, but to help with that I'm just dedicating my self to running for stuff every month. |

I've totally won a club with 1 vote before. Most of the time I have no competition.
WITH AS DEAD AS CLUBS ARE. Generally. You can always ask the person running hey you mind letting me run it next month unless you're going for the achievement? I do it all the time between the staff since we run like. 50 % of the clubs at any given time. If I notice someone new running in a club I am or someone who doesn't typically run clubs, I usually throw it in their direction, too.
As for the achievements why not have them 3, 6, 9, and 12 instead of 3 and 10? Link Tree |

I like Chao's suggestion for the 3, 6, 9, and 12! |
