Looking for a good mind stimulating book

Hi guys! :D So I am looking for a good few books on sort of controversial things. I love debates, philosophy and controversy. Maybe a book about the use of propaganda on wars in history between governments, government controversies. I love reading about history and to be honest, I don't know as much as I should about past wars and politics within countries and in the world! Maybe books about deep things about the universe, could be philosophical? Could even be about controversy in religion? I am currently reading American Diplomacy and Aroung the Cragged Hill, both by George Kennan. |

I'm not a big fan of controversy tbh, BUT one of the last courses I took before I graduated was one about the use of the atomic bombs in Japan - possibly one of the biggest controversies of WWII (and today, really). There are a TON of books and resources about it, but one that we spent a lot of time on is War Without Mercy: Race and Power in the Pacific War by John Dower. (It has a lot of pictures in it too, so it doesn't get too dull with all the diplomacy :Db) Regardless of how you personally feel about the use of the bomb, it's an interesting read! There's actually a lot to be read about the controversies of the Pacific War.. It gets quite disturbing though, so tread carefully if you get into it! |

If you want something a bit different but still really cool, I recommend Maus by Art Spiegelman. It's a graphic novel, but it's about his dad's experience in the holocaust as a Jewish person living in Poland. It's a really cool and unique way of telling the story that way too. I had to write a paper on it for a Holocaust class in university. |
