Interest/Price Check - pixels

Hi! So I enjoy doing pixel art and wanted to get an interest check on what kind of stuff you guys might like, and what you are willing to pay/what you think is fair. I just have a few questions (answer whichever you want), like - What do you want in pixel form? Your HP horses? HP dogs? Real-life horses, pets, other random animals? Objects? Why? For avatars, signatures, horse profiles, tables? What do you think is a fair price for: 50x50, 100x100, 150x150, 200x200, 250x250, 300x300 (knowing that each will be more detailed and take more time) How do you feel the level of detail should affect the price? What size pixels are you most interested in? What do you think is a fair trade for a pixel - tables, graphics, edits, manips, animals, etc? What type/size/detail of pixel equates to what service? Would you rather just pay HPD over an art/code trade? Would you rather see very traditional pixel art (ie. 3 shades per color, similar to 8bit stuff? or just decked out art in pixel form?)? and if you think of anything else relevant I'd love to know and would be happy to discuss. :) |

Firstly, I do think it's great we get another pixel artist here on HP! There's so few of them. While I don't know a lot around this particular genre of art, this is my two-cents: For price, the main thing I'd recommend is experimenting different styles in the Graphic Auction to see the interest/what people are willing to pay. This can give you a better gauge on pricing accurately. As for types to allow, you can either just stay in your comfort zone or expand out seasonally. For example: You could do Zombie horses, Night-Mares, jack-o-lanterns, etc. for Halloween and normally be whatever. Typically, people prefer them for avatars/sigs for forums, but as of late I've also been seeing interests for digital art of horse/dog graphics too. In addition to the graphic auction prices, I think you should also work on pricing through detail/difficulty/time consumption. So for example, if you can complete a 50x50 in 10mins but a 300x300 in 5 days, then obviously the 300 should be more expensive. For me personally, if you're wanting to go into an OBO trade, I'd think asking for Upgrades or layout/graphics would be most fair as they can accumulate a similar price (unless prices have changed over the past 5 years. Haven't checked). While I prefer the 3-shade pixel (like what I have at the moment), I'm not too picky on 8-bit retro or newer styles either, but everyone's taste is different. Also why experimenting is good. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for the input Eir! That's a great suggestion about the graphic auctions; I only ever see layout or horse manips in there so it wouldn't occur to me to test the waters for pixels and the like. Plus, I'm always surprised at how much people are willing to pay on here; I'm not super active so dropping 200mil in HPD is so foreign to me haha. And I love the seasonal thing! People seem very excited about Halloween here lol. This is super helpful, thanks a lot :) |
