Does anyone here read Manga? I was shelving Manga and Graphic Novels last night at work and thought I should try such genres and add them to my repetoire of reading lists. Anyone have any favorites they would recommend or know which series I should start with and in? I'm kind of over the high school drama/cheesy love story phase; then, again, I confess to be judging books by their cover. :(

Here is a tiny list of a handful of different subgenres to get you started: Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo [sci-fi neo-Tokyo-style], Monster by Naoki Urasawa [thriller], Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa [dark fantasy, sci-fi], and Fuan no Tane by Masaaki Nakayama [horror - Japanese manga does not mess around when it comes to the horror genre, although this one is definitely lighter than Uzumaki].

Basically, whatever your favorite genres are in Western literature - just type them in followed by 'manga' and you're gonna find a whooooole lot!

Attack on Titan

I used to be a big manga nut but less so recently. Not sure what kinds of genres you're into for other forms of media, but my personal favorites:

- Fullmetal Alchemist
- Boys Over Flowers
- Ouran High School Host Club
- Anything by Junji Ito (great great horror manga)
- My Hero Academia
- Shaman King

And then of course there are the Big Time Classics that are all super long/involved and people either hate or love them:

- Naruto
- Bleach
- One Piece (actually very good at least for the first long stretch)
- Inu Yasha
- etc.

No, I don't think I have but it sounds familiar. Is it any good? Because I may just add it to my ever growing collection! :D 

It's short, only 8 volumes, but I really liked it for some reason.  Demons and Nuns.

I also love CLAMP and strongly love Tsubasa - it has Cardcaptor Sakura characters in a who new world tied into xxxHolic.

I enjoyed Cardcaptor Sakura when I was younger, both the manga and anime. Loved Gundam Wing and Wolf's Rain (though I mostly watched the anime), and I have recently become interested in Attack on Titan. 

*blitzes through shouting* KARNEVAL IS STILL PRECIOUS TO ME, BLEACH IS MY FAV, TOKYO GHOUL IS A PLUS, AND naruto is actually pretty damn awesome now that my sister finally got me to watch it (... I'd read it but.. the libraries are still closed). Also My Hero Academia, blitzed through all three seasons in like 5 days and now I'm trash for three different characters lmao.

Also I'm someone who generally assumes that if the anime is alright, the manga is great too (there's not been a lot of variance in the series I've watched and read)

Are you taking suggestions for watching them? Cause I like samurai champloo soooooooooo much!!

I haven't read all the manga to Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh but I watched the series for a time. I enjoyed the Death note manga series and some of the movie adaptations. I started reading Tokyo Ghoul a few months back but I have not been able to get hold of the rest of the series yet.  And I always pick a favourite character or characters and I am their fangirl for evermore! 

So far the manga and anime have not disappointed. I actually have a small, humble collection of anime alongside my manga collection and I have a few series in both manga and anime. :D 

of course I am obsessed with Inuyasha too hehe
