I'm curious: When you sell/trade/whatever your foals or puppies, do you permanently brand/tag them?

I usually don't, and i'm trying to decide if it's something I want to start doing.

I usually don't. I don't really have a reason not to... I think I might start as well. :P

As a buyer I'd rather see the breeder's brand on the horse/dog.I'd rather have my brand on something I created.

I do...and when I buy something from someone else, it makes me feel weird to brand it as my own when I didn't create it.

I permanently brand/tag them before selling... I think it's kinda weird when you buy someone else's foal or whatever and put your own brand on it.. I've had a couple people do that with foals I've sold and it's something I wouldn't do.. I either ask if they want me to brand it with their brand or I just leave it open.

I do brand them, I see it as a way to trace it back to your stock/accomplishment.

I think i'll start doing it too. Like I don't mind if buyers tag puppies that the buy from me with their own tag, but I think I will start permanently tagging before I sell.I mean, I like looking at the list of dogs on my page and without having to go into their pedigree pages you can tell which dogs are mine and which are outside lines. It may not, but I kind of feel like it gives off the "yes, I share lines, ask me!" kind of vibe haha.

I permanently brand if it's a line I really care about.Unless it's going to a friend, then I don't care, they can give it their own brand if they want. Not important to me either way, I guess.

I use to brand when i had Lines.it was a tracker for me as well. when someone decided to wreck my lines, i could track my horses down and get them back.*shrugs* thats why i basically brand.

That too...I like being able to track all my lines and former lines in the future...especially when you can change names on things, how else am I to know it was one of my old lines of a breed I don't do anymore?

I came from a game where everyone stole credit on accomplished animals or lines, so i brand all mine here because im still rather paranoid even though my animals have gone to some amazing players. I also do it because Ive worked on my lines, and I feel great when I see animals ive sold turn out super well with my brand.I wish there was a brand search option.

Duckie, there is - you can search by brand on the horse/dog search pages (which is how I stalk all the offspring I've sold ;D). Or do you mean being able to see everyone's brands at the same time?I brand foals as soon as I breed them so I can check on them in their new homes. :D I've never had a problem buying animals with brands, since to me it sort-of represents ~community~ within a breed.

I don't brand my animals: I use that space to show what Generation they are on - makes it easier for me to figure out which horse/dog i am breeding to. But when i sell i brand.

I started using the color section for my generation tracking but that's just me

I used yo put gen and sire x dam but I can't see it from different accounts so then I switched to putting gen in the color section and I still put sire x dam in the notes/spaz

I put name, points, age and generation in name, and put the day they were bred in color so I know that if they were born on friday, to breed on thursday. Misa: well derp, I never saw that before, thanks!! :D

I use the Brand section because the Colour section doesn't show on the profile page. I usually put Name, points, age and gender in the name section and parents in the notes
