You all know that Concourse loves random small holidays. She has had many events planned, but real life kind of stepped up and in the way (Juggling numerous jobs, two toddlers, full-time college student, and just life in general). So the bad news is, I missed some amazing planned events - and it really really sucks. I had huge things typed out for: Save the Rhino Day, Space Day, National Tourism Day, Mother’s Day, Love a Tree Day, and World Otter Day! In the long run, this is okay - cause there is always next year and I have all the events and stuff already created for those days and ready to go. The best news is: I still have loads of things planned out for the rest of the year - and most of those are already created too!!!!! I am going to start now, with one of my favorites!

Hug Your Cat Day!

Did you know that Ancient Egyptians worshiped cats? They absolutely spoiled then and treated them like royalty. Which is not much different from how they are treated today. June 4th, 2020 is Hug Your Cat Day!

How can you celebrate in real life? Obviously pick up a kitty and give it a hug! Don’t have a kitty? That’s fine. You can love on one at a shelter (if it is safe) or love one from afar through pictures.

How can we celebrate on HP? I am so glad you asked. Cats are not part of the game play (fingers crossed here guys!), but a lot of us own them and here is where we can spread love and good cheer on the game. There are numerous events - and even the ones that require you own a kitty will have alternatives so that you can still earn prizes!

I will update this DAILY with a new event. You will have until 7 PM HP time (EST) on June 5th to get your entries in and prizes will be awarded as soon as possible.

We will start today (I am posting this slightly early on May 30th as I work a 13 hour shift tomorrow) - May 31st, 2020.

EVENT ONE

Picture Story - If you own a cat, this is your time to shine. Post a picture of your cat(s) and tell us a little bit about them. You can tell us a short story about them (how they became yours, what their personality is like, why they are the best kitty in the whole world, absolutely anything). If you don’t own a cat, but you are close to someone who does - feel free to tell us about any cat that you know and adore!

If there are absolutely no purring friends in your life - then find a picture of your favorite kitty on the internet (HP appropriate, please) and share with us here. Tell us what you would name the kitty if you owned it and make up a story about it (silly, happy, whatever your little heart desires).

If you participate and share a picture and a story, you will earn 2,000 points on any one animal of your choice. Only one prize to be awarded per person who participates. You have until June 5th, 2020 at 7pm HP time (EST) to get your entries in.

EVENT TWO

Bagheera

We got this nug when he was a kitten from in front of the local grocery store. He and his litter-mates were actually too young to be separated from their mom, but the owners didn't know that and we didn't really know it until we brought him home and noticed some size, health, and behavior issues. Baggy was the smallest kit in the batch, the total runt, but he had a huge personality. Like he acted like he was raised by dogs rather than cats. He chewed on shoes, yowled at the doorbell, and followed us around the house xD He's grown out of those behaviors and into a fullblown bratty teenage phase for most of his life - avoiding people, literally shooting out of the room and under a bed whenever a car would pull into the driveway, picking fights with the dog. Now, he's a diabetic old man and has kinda regressed into a sweet puppy kit. He's following us around again and declaring human laps his napping territory. Love him to pieces :D

This is Fox Mulder, or Fox for short. He is a sphynx kitty! I have had him for a bit over 2 years now and he is my favorite. He's my little shadow and lap warmer and is spoiled rotten. He's probably the most affectionate cat i've ever owned and made me fall in love with the breed!

This is my mother's cat, Crisco. My mother and sister found him living underneath our porch with a broken leg years ago while I was away at college. My father is very allergic to cats, and he still told them to adopt it. I do not adore any cats as I am not a cat person myself by any means, especially this one. I swear this cat is demon possessed. He likes to hide underneath things in the house and wait for you to walk by. And when you least expect it, your ankles are getting swiped at. I remember one time, I got into my car and this cat was out in the back yard with a squirrel in his paws. I watched him for awhile. He was catching the poor squirrel, then he would release it just the chase it around the yard again and catch it. And the cycle continued over and over again.

This is one of my lovely cats Ponchina.  My grandpa originally got her from an accidental litter of barn kittens that a stray had at his neighbors and was informed that she was a male kitten.  He decided to name her (him at the time) Poncho, I assume after hearing the Merle Haggard song Poncho and Lefty on the radio.  Not too long after we ended up taking the cat so he could do some more traveling and I made a vet appointment to have the cat neutered.  Later that day the vet calls to inform me that the cat is actually a girl, to which I proceed to say "you're  kidding right?"  So the appointment got changed to a spay!  When we went to pick her up the vet tech jokingly said, "here's Ponchina" and the name's stuck every since!

Macy

My sister found Macy almost 4 years ago at City Walk.  This itty bitty kitten was hanging around the dumpsters with a bum leg so she decided to bring her home.  She was so little but had so much spunk!  One of the earliest pictures I have of her is when she sat on my dad's shoulder and watched bowling videos with him.  Now she has grown to be such a feisty cat.  She loves to bite and she's full of attitude, but she's also the biggest cuddle bug I know.

My semi feral barn cats that I adopted. They would possibly scratch your eyes out if you tried to hug them.

The litter of kittens was found on the side of the road and neutered, chipped and had their ear tip snipped to signal they are semi feral. Due to them being from generations of feral cats - there was no efforts made to domesticate them. Instead they are found farm homes where they happily live outside / in outbuildings and help with your pest control.

Theas guys will never come for a cuddle but they do hang around and yell at me if I'm late with breakfast/dinner.

This is my baby girl, Rusko. She is extra special as she was an "oops kitten" from my oldest cat. This meant that I was able to witness her being born and because i had such a good bond with mama cat, I was able to hold her within minutes of her being born.

As we are all she has ever known, we are 110% trust worthy in her eyes. Tummy rubs are her favourite, she will literally fall from standing and act like she is a dog in need of a tummy rub! I am also able to wear her as a scarf and she just lays on my shoulders most often when I'm doing housework!

She sleeps under the duvet with us at a night time with her little head propped on the pillow. She is the laziest cat though.. 9/10 times she is either sleeping on the sofa or bed. The only time she goes out is to use the potty and then its return of the naps xD

Quick facts - Her favourite food are peas!

- she has a heart shaped marking on her left arm, we say its because she has so much love to give it overspilled and became part of her

This is Ferdinand! I adopted him from a local shelter on black Friday last year. He is about 11 months old now. I have two other older cats, and Ferdinand is convinced that they love him, and is always trying to cuddle, play, and constantly be near them. The oldest cat cannot stand him. The middle cat tolerates him, and will play with him occasionally, and seek him out for cuddles. Aaand then sometimes decide that he needs to be taught a lesson for no reason. Boys. He constantly wants attention, and if you do anything that doesn't involve him, he jumps in and gets in the way until he gets some pets.

This is Cricket, and she is hilarious!

Cricket was found on the side of the road in a very rural area where we live with her two brothers, when they were about 3 weeks old. A friend found them and bottle fed and nursed them to healthy for about 3 weeks.

Our daughter Haley had been asking for 2 years for a real life kitten, and it took me a week, but I finally convinced my husband to let me get this nugget for Haley for her birthday.

We got her from our friend when she was only about 6 weeks old, she was already using a litter box and eating hard food. Right away we knew this kitty was going to be special. She was so snuggly and would follow us everywhere we went. And still does to this day (she's just now a year old!). We go out on walks that are about a mile long and she comes right along with us and doesn't wander far, she turns around when we do and comes right back with us.

We have a herd of horses and have to take a ranger(side by side with a "truck bed") out to feed and when she hears that start up, she comes running and jumps onto it and rides it out to feed the horses with us. She was raised with our dog from the time she was itty bitty, and would fit in the palm of my hand. She often sleeps on top of our dog Luke and he doesn't seem to mind one bit. We not usually cat people, but this cat is so awesome, she's really more like a dog.

Her name comes from a Filipino dessert. :) We adopted her from a local cat rescue organization and she's 3 years old.  She's a very cuddly and people-friendly girl.  She also talks constantly and it's super cute!  She's had some kidney problems, unfortunately, but we've helped her with specialized food, access to a water fountain, and good vet care.  We've had her for 2 years and she's my very first pet!

ELLA!!

https://i.imgur.com/BC7ex64.jpg

Ella is a 4 year old Rex cross. How she came into my possession...she was born to a stray out in the country. The family who found the kittens posted them on Kijiji and Anna and her family went and got her and named her Ella. Fast forward several months, and Ella was terrorizing Anna's older cats with her crazy energy, so they decided to rehome her by donating her to my barn as a new barn cat. Ella has weird hair, though (just the undercoat of cat hair, so it's super soft and in spots it looks like she doesn't have much hair at all), so she wouldn't survive as a barn cat in the Canadian winter. She was donated to the barn in November, and was living in the office where it's warmer. Over Christmas, I was asked if I could take her home for 2 weeks seeing as no one would be there to spend time with her. I was strictly told she had to be returned at the end. Oops :P She came out of her shell being a house cat in the 2 weeks, so I emailed telling them that and got to keep her :D

Ella loves pretending she's part-human by sleeping under blankets with her head on my pillow. She also loves sleeping behind my head during the day while I watch tv. She's also a lovely nag when I'm not home when I usually am.

I have, uh, nine cats lol. So let's get started!

Granny: https://i.imgur.com/CS986kJ.jpg
I brought Granny home two years ago to provide hospice care. The shelter I worked at pulled her from animal control and sent her to the vet, where she received a cancer diagnosis. She weighed a whopping three pounds, and I honestly expected her to live a month or two at most. But with time, effort, love, and oh-so-many pills, she's still with us and thriving! She's a feisty little thing, and though she's half the size of the other cats and only has three teeth, she intimidates them all!

Baby: https://i.imgur.com/SBfAVK6.jpg
This old man was surrendered to the aforementioned shelter when his owner moved to a nursing home. He was terribly scared and--as we'd soon discover--diabetic. He was nearly impossible to administer insulin to, and talk of euthanasia began floating around. So I had the bright idea to wrestle him into a carrier and put him in my house lol. It took a long time, but he eventually came around, and after a diet change he no longer needs insulin (though he has some other health issues that need daily medication and careful monitoring.) He's still a bit anxious and fussy (especially when meal time draws near), but he's honestly just a darling. He kneads with all four paws, and if you hold up his canned food and ask, "Is this yours?" he meows and nods.

Salty: https://i.imgur.com/paV6DUo.jpg
Salty is my most recent addition. He was a stray picked up by one of the local cat rescuers. The clinic where I work took him on as an adoptable cat, though some chronic health issues made him a bit of a tough sell. After a couple of months at the clinic, I thought he seemed depressed, so I started taking him out of his cage during my lunch break and sitting on the floor with him in my lap while I ate. He is--without a doubt---the most affectionate cat I have ever met. I cleaned his cage with one arm and held him with the other because he gave me no choice lol. So the extra love during the day really seemed to boost his mood. And, of course, I grew attached, but I hesitated to take him because I already had eight other cats. Long story short, my coworkers contacted my family, and they orchestrated this big secret operation. I came home one day to find my carrier with a big bow on top and Salty under my couch. He still demands to be held and yells at me when I have to set him down to leave for work.

Mildred: https://i.imgur.com/lUZvPhE.jpg
We found Mildred in a tree at seven weeks old. After three hours of chasing her around, she climbed up into a car. We popped the hood, scooped her out, she fell asleep in my arms, and the rest is history. She acts tough, but the first night we had her, she cried nonstop until I moved her crate where she could see me as I slept. She also tilts her head down to request forehead kisses. She sniffs/licks the other cats when they aren't looking, then slaps them when they notice. Olive is the exception. She openly adores her little brother and has since he was a kitten.

Olive: https://i.imgur.com/rdv4nYo.jpg
Olive was a foster fail lol. He came in severely malnourished, covered in mats and thorns (had to be shaved), with ringworm and an upper respiratory infection. I brought him home because he wouldn't eat, and the environment change was all he needed to start scarfing down food. I had three other fosters at the time but only one cat of my own (Mildred), and her unusually positive response to him coupled with my partner's clear adoration for him led to the decision to keep him. He's the picture of confidence, very vocal, and has a purr you can hear through walls. He also loves kittens and acted as a surrogate mother for my four youngest cats.

Varric: https://i.imgur.com/YliCEjO.jpg
Varric spent the first twelve weeks of his life, along with his mother and siblings, in a dog crate. The person who found the family and agreed to foster them just kind of fed the cats and ignored them. While most of them were more-or-less okay, Varric's growth was stunted. Being me, I fell in love with his weird little self and took him home. He became very attached to Olive, and still follows his adoptive mama around everywhere. Although he's great with other cats, we missed the window for optimal socialization with humans. He doesn't like to be approached or handled, but he's almost always within sight, sleeps next to me now, and occasionally lets me pet him. I'm exceptionally proud of his progress. Oh, and his physical development eventually evened out (mostly!)

Crayons: https://i.imgur.com/rreFnGI.jpg
One of three kittens who were discovered at one day old in the grill of a car, during a thunderstorm, at an event my mother's coworker was attending. I bottle fed them and, while I didn't intend to keep them, well... y'know. Crayons is the "clever girl" of the group. She's into everything all the time and never makes a sound until things come crashing down. She purrs and rubs against things when she's caught, because isn't she adorable? Surely you can't be angry with such a cute little kitty. Bah. She also loves to play fetch with hair ties and knows how to open the drawer where we keep them.

Quiz: https://i.imgur.com/FdBsoIU.jpg
Another of the triplets. Quiz is the best-behaved of her siblings. She does, however, have a thing for fuzzy socks. Sometimes she'll bring them to you. Other times you'll suddenly see a fuzzy sock flying through the air as she wrestles it to death. Her favorite non-sock toy is a little Wild Thing plush, whose fuzzy mane she has almost completely plucked by this point. She likes to chew on people's fingers, and she enjoys hide-and-seek at meal times (which the very tired humans do not find nearly as entertaining.)

Sharpie: https://i.imgur.com/jbesDZo.jpg
Sharpie is the unofficial baby of the trio. He just radiates little baby energy. He's easily distractable, especially when presented with something--anything--to lick. We call him the Smoochiest Boy in the West. He hates being held, but that doesn't stop him from jumping into my arms in a five foot vertical leap from the floor. (Of course, he immediately demands to be released once I've caught him.) He's always the one to pick fights with his siblings, and always the one to cry like a baby when he loses.

This boi is Beetle. I've had him since he was 7 weeks (which I didn't know until too late) and he turned 7 on 13th April. His homecoming anniversary is on 7th June!
He loves to sleep in the sun and by a warm radiator. His favourite food is tuna, and his favourite "toy" is catnip".
Before he gets his meals or treats, he has to give kisses, which he gives by rubbing his face against ours.
To get our attention, he usually "trills", but if he wants to get his point across, he'll miaow.
A few years ago, he somehow broke his left hind leg and had to have a femoral head oostectomy, which is where the ball at the top of his femur was removed. When he stands on his hind legs to sniff at open windows, his left foot lifts off the window ledge he's standing on because that leg is a little shorter.
Beetle is the first cat that I and my bestie (the real Murdock) have ever owned. His nicknames include "Bug", "Beetley-weetley", "Buggy Butt", "Beet Beet" and whatever I can come up with.

https://i.imgur.com/vJsiOxM.jpg

This gurl is Pickle. She turned 2 in September some time, and her homecoming was in October. I've had her since she was 6 weeks (her mother's owner wanted the litter gone at 5 weeks!).
Pickle is a very active cat (she can get up on top of the bedroom door), and her favourite toy is the play tunnel I bought her last Christmas.
When Pickle was tiny, she was small enough to crawl inside an empty cheese puff bag in order to lick up the crumbs! (I have photo proof!)
Before she gets treats, she has to sit, give one paw at a time, then turn around. When she eats her meals, she likes to have me or the real Murdock, stand by her.
One trait of cats is nosiness, and Pickle is no exception. She loves to see what you're doing and has to smell every food item. She knows the sound of a sliced meat packet being opened and will run into the kitchen to get share.
When Pickle first came home, the real Murdock told me he didn't want to see her, hear about her or have anything to do with her (she was unplanned). The second week after she came home, he and I were in our building's elevator and I told him I couldn't decide on a name for her. He said "She looks like an Ickle Pickle ("ickle" means "small"), so that's her proper name. And she's now his Princess Pickle.
Among her many nicknames are: "Pickwick", "Ickle Pickle Pop", "Kitten", "Kitty Witty Woo Woo" and "Nosey O'Donnell".
