The American Plains Bison's scientific name is Bison Bison Bison :D They're the largest mammal in North America. During the majority of the year, the older bulls go off alone and younger bulls in pairs or trios. They only approach the herds of cows before mating season, where they gather their own little harems and fend off other bulls. Baby bison are born with bright red-orange hair and are called "red dogs." You can judge a bison's mood by observing its tail; a comfortable bison lets its tail hang, while a bison on guard lifts the tail higher and higher. When the tail hangs up over its back, the bison is extremely agitated and ready to charge. Mango plans to own her own bison herd and raise a little bull calf from a baby. His name will be Clyde, and he will be her best friend.

All of this I knew off the top of my head because I LOVE BISON, I CANNOT EXPRESS THIS ENOUGH.

My favorite wild animal is the red panda. Because omg, they are the absolute cutest. The zoo in my city has two, and in June they had triplets. They haven't been out to be viewed by the public yet, but the zoo keeps releasing videos/pictures, and omg. I'm in love.

Manatees!! They're SO cute and I relate to them big time. Most of their lil vegetarian lives are spent eating, sleeping, and traveling. Same, little dudes, same.

Wolves of the sea aka Orcas!

- Orcas are split up by ecotypes (there's 10!), which basically helps differentiate the way they socialize, their appearance, prey preferences, ect.. The also have some of the most fascinating hunting techniques I've ever seen in wild animals.. but I can't help but giggle at how rediculous they look 'spy hopping' lol The oldest known wild orca was named Granny and it was said that she was over 100 years old, though there was a major debate about the age. She passed away in 2016.

Elephants!!!!
need I say more?
Okay, so they are just so flipping adorable and seem so odd to actually exist.

https://images.app.goo.gl/ohijRAnDstkumUfH7

They have such an amazing family unit and act in a way towards one another that hardly any other animal can be seen doing.
They mourne their deceased, they have amazing memories, they protect and save the young, even if they are not their own!
And look at those ears!

oh and Mango, I don't know if you've seen my husbands newest painting....but

Bears are SO cool. Did y'all know Bears are one of the most intelligent land animals in North America? They have the largest and most complex brains in comparison to other land mammals their size and they rely on this brain for a number of behaviors. For example, grizzly bears can remember hotspots for food even after ten years and some have even been observed covering their tracks or hiding behind rocks and trees to avoid detection by hunters. Grizzly bears have also learned to camouflage their scent by rolling around in rotting flesh in order to sneak up on prey. I have lots of tattoos of bears and feel connected through spirit to these amazing creatures!

I adore big cats, wolves and bears, but I'm gonna go with something local for this: red foxes!
These two live in the derelict land across the road from my apartment building. I don't know if they're the mated pair who produced the cubs in the pic (taken a few years ago), but they're in the same territory, just a different spot this year.

Pangolins are my favorite. They look like little pinecone armadillos! They are however, anteaters I believe! They eat termites and the like. Sadly, they are poached often for the exotic pet trade and for their meat which is a delicacy in many countries. :C

My favorite wild animal is the Seahorse! They are really fascinating and beautiful.

yuuhNVN.jpg

Seahorses propel themselves by using a small fin on their back that flutters 35x per second! The smaller pectoral fins on their head are used for steering. Sea horses graze continually and can eat up to 3,000 brine shrimp per day.

What is really interesting about seahorses is that the males can give birth to thousands of babies each time.

EMPEROR PENGUINS!

My favourite! They are the largest of 17 species, and stand as tall as the average 6 year old! Dad takes care of the egg while mom fishes. They will lose almost half their body weight during this time! Upon her return a month or two later the egg hatches and babies get fed!

Their babies are so cute and fluffy! They slide on their bellies. They huddle in colonies of 5,000 or more during the harsh weather! They waddle and are so damn cute!

Elephants! I think they're just so gentle and kind despite their size. I love their ears too and how they move them. I have not met one in person yet, but that's definitely on the bucket list!
