My husband rocks

So Danny was at work today, and he said he'd pick up dinner after work (he was expecting to finish at 5.30pm), which was awesome, because i'd spent all day re-arranging the living room and cleaning and I really wasn't in the mood to cook.

At a bit after 4pm I checked our online banking to see how much was in there and it said a $75 purchase was made at the pet store at 4.01pm. Danny recently got me a Cockatiel (well, he allowed me to enter a pet store and I walked out with a bird, it's basically the same thing lmao) and I mentioned that I wanted some millet because it's irresistible to Cockatiels and it would help me train Odie.

So he came home and I was all curious as to what he bought. He walked in the door with a huge bag of millet and a small animal transport box.... He handed it to me and smiled. I peeked inside and there sat this beautiful little whiteface cinnamon pearl Cockatiel.

OH EM GEE. I have wanted one of these for YEARS. Like this is my dream mutation. But i've never been able to find one around here and the only breeders I knew where interstate and i've never really been able to justify animal shipping fees for a bird.

I am so happy I could die.

I don't have any pictures yet because the lighting was awful and I wanted to let him/her settle in a little before I go all stalker with a camera. So i'll get some photos tomorrow.

I don't know if it's a male or female yet, but i've been meaning to send some samples from my conure out for DNA gender testing, so i'm going to send off samples from Bandit and the new 'tiel tomorrow.

I REALLY hope it's a female. Partially because he/she and Odie (my other tiel) have already hit it off and I could get some pretty spunky babies out of them. But mostly because when males of the pearl mutation molt out their feathers, they lose their pearls. Females keep their pearls when they molt. Which is a real bummer because they're SO pretty and i'd hate to lose them.

I will know by the end of next week!

Don't you love when men actually listen to you when you say you love something and you absolutely want it? and then later they remember and when they see it, they actually get it?

Well done training the boy! :P

Haha yes, almost 12 years of training has finally paid off lmao. I'm still amazed he bought it. Normally he'd just be like "Oh so I saw this bird at the pet store that you would probably like" and by the time we get there someone else has bought it already lol.

I keep staring at this bird and just smiling. I'm so happy lol. I sent off the samples for DNA testing this morning so i'm hoping to have the results by the end of next week. It's going to cost me $36 but it will be worth it not having to guess the gender lmao. And after a year of assuming Bandit is a boy I will finally know either way lmao.

Thanks guys :)

He/she is settling in well. Eating like a pig which is great. Odie has started singing his little heart out which is a) adorable and b) a good sign that the newbie is a girl. If it's a girl, I really like Luna.

Persistence is key, Tron lmao.

Well I bought two more today.......

Danny saw a post on one of the buy/swap/sell facebook pages for our town and he told me about it. "Bonded pair of Cockatiels and their cage for $130". I went to the page to have a look expecting to see a couple of normal grey 'tiels and a basic cage, but I was pleased with what I saw..

The male is a cinnamon. He is gorgeous. And he sings a lot apparently XD Which is awesome, cause Odie just started coming out of his shell and singing a lot so hopefully he'll encourage the new boy to sing as well. The girl is a whiteface cinnamon, similar to the bird Danny got me last week. The cage is exactly what i've been looking for, but never bought because they retail for $250-$300 and I never needed one bad enough to spend that much. So $130 was a pretty standout price considering individually everything adds up to roughly $350-$400 lol.

Only iphone pictures until tomorrow when I clip their wings and give them a once over.

The cage they came in:

The female is missing her tail feathers because apparently the lady had them in with a Galah and he went mental at her and pulled out a bunch of her feathers. They'll grow back next time she molts, as will the chest feathers she's missing. She'll look a whole lot prettier once she molts lmao.

So now I have a total of 5 birds :P

once you get one bird, you can't stop lol. We currently have an African Grey, An Amazon, lovebird, Alexandrine Parakeet, a green cheek conure and a sunday conure. and in the past we've had a turquoise green cheek conure, a pineapple conure, and a scarlett chested parakeet.
