The Triple Crown Game 2021

 It's that time of the year again! This game was established in 2012 and has run almost every year since. It is something that a lot of players look forward to playing and I'm thrilled that I am able to run it as a Mod this year with additional prizes! you can apply a 50% discount to your draw fees! You can view your join date on your home page. If you have any questions, please send me a message. Preakness Stakes: 5/9 1:00pm EST through 5/15 6:00pm EST Belmont Stakes: 6/1 1:00pm EST through 6/5 6:00pm EST  Draw 1: 5mil Draw 2: 10mil Draw 3: 15mil Send the HPD to #113 with "TTCG DRAWS" in the reason box. When you purchase a draw, one of the horses running in the race will be chosen at random by a generator and assigned to you. You can purchase up to three draws total per race. Prizes will be rewarded to players whose horses place in the top 3 spots at the conclusion of the races. 1. Prynne sends 15mil to #113 for a Draw 3 for the Kentucky Derby. • Each draw will take into account which horses have not been drawn yet. If someone has drawn Bob, Bob will not be drawn again until all other horses have been drawn. This will ensure that at least every horse is drawn at least once.  PARTICIPATION RAFFLE: Everyone that participates in a race will earn 1 raffle ticket towards a drawing for 7,500 points for an animal and a 1-month upgrade. This drawing will occur after each race. I love these little updates, Prynne. So much goes into horse racing that I had no idea about, such as drawing for starting positions and who gets bumped up if a horse is scratched or goes out sick. This is why I don't play Poker, Texas Hold 'Em, or live close to a race track: I really fail at "playing my cards" just right.  |

The racing industry is a whole nother beast in the equestrian world that I know very little about! It's fun to learn things though, so I'm glad Prynne explains the races in easy to read details! :D    |

 You can watch the official race replay on YouTube here if you missed it! This year's Derby was a close race! Medina Spirit took the lead early on and managed to hold off the rest of the field to win the 2021 Kentucky Derby! Mandaloun chased Medina Spirit from the beginning, but was unfortunately not able to overcome him for the win. The race's favorite, Essential Quality, ran a decent-enough fourth, after having to recover from a bad bump at the break between him, and the race's second-favorite, Rock Your World. Soup and Sandwich, who held an exceptional second for most of the race, finished last. Despite concerns regarding how much the jockey pulled Soup and Sandwich up towards the end of the race, his trainer confirmed via twitter that he is fine and has no injuries. With this win, Bob Baffert is now the winningest trainer in Kentucky Derby history with 7 overall wins. The jockey, John Velazquez, won the Derby about 25 hours after also winning the 147th Kentucky Oaks Friday night upon Malathaat. John also won the Derby last year upon Authentic. This is his fourth Kentucky Derby win. Hidden Stash's trainer, Vicki Oliver, was the first woman to saddle a Derby horse since 2015. Mike Smith, who finished 6th on Midnight Bourbon, rode in his record-breaking 27th Kentucky Derby, ending his tie with legendary jockey Bill Shoemaker for most Derby rides of all time. Medina Spirit is likely to be pointed to the Preakness Stakes next to continue his journey towards completing the Triple Crown challenge. The second leg of the Triple Crown sets up from Pimlico race track in two weeks on Saturday, May 15th. Draws should be available a week before the race is set to run. Draws will open late HP time tomorrow after the post position draw occurs. There is a lot of controversy currently that may impact which horses are allowed to run in the Preakness. I will post more information regarding that during my post tomorrow. Apologies for the delay! |

 Controversy Regarding Medina Spirit Post positions for the Preakness were drawn yesterday. Draws are now able to be purchased! As a reminder, the ability to purchase draws for the Preakness will end on 5/15 at 6:00pm EST. I apologize for the delay in this getting put up. The post position draw was delayed by a day and all of the details of the Medina Spirit situation were causing a lot of unknowns for the race. Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit failed a post-race drug test after the Derby and was found to be positive for the corticosteroid betamethasone. Betamethasone is a Class C drug that is allowed in Kentucky as a therapeutic. However, state rules require at least a 14-day withdrawal time and any level of detection on race day is a violation. If Medina Spirit is disqualified, he will be stripped of the Derby title and its winning purse, and become only the third horse in the 147 year history to receive such a penalty after finishing first. Medina Spirit cannot be disqualified until a second sample, collected at the same time as the first, confirms the result in a test expected in the coming weeks. At that time, the trainer will then have an opportunity to appeal. This whole process may take months to completely finalize. Bob Baffert said neither he nor anyone else on his team had administered the drug to Medina Spirit. He insisted the colt had not been treated with it. There are rumors and speculation circulating about how his test results came to be, but nothing is confirmed at this time. On Tuesday, Baffert made the following statement. "Following the Santa Anita Derby, Medina Spirit developed dermatitis on his hind end. I had him checked out by my veterinarian who recommended the use of an anti-fungal ointment called Otomax. The veterinary recommendation was to apply this ointment daily to give the horse relief, help heal the dermatitis and prevent it from spreading. While we do not know definitively that this was the source of the alleged 21 picograms found in Medina Spirit's post-race blood sample, and our investigation is continuing, I have been told by equine pharmacology experts that this could explain the test results. As such, I wanted to be forthright about this fact as soon as I learned of this information." Preakness race organizers have allowed Medina Spirit to run in the Preaknes after Baffert consented to his horses being blood tested and monitored leading up to the race. There are huge changes coming to horse racing in 2022 which include establishing baseline rules and safety standards for the sport regardless of where races are being run. These unified rules should help regulate the sport in the manner it desperately needs. |
