There are 7 different species of sea turtles, from the shallow seagrass beds of the Indian Ocean to the colorful reefs of the Coral Triangle and the sandy beaches of the Eastern Pacific. While these highly migratory species periodically come ashore to either bask or nest, sea turtles spend the bulk of their lives in the ocean.

Over the last 200 years, human activities have tipped the scales against the survival them. Sea turtles suffer from poaching and over-exploitation. They also face habitat destruction and accidental capture in fishing gear. Climate change has an impact on turtle nesting sites; it alters sand temperatures, which then affects the sex of hatchlings. Nearly all species of sea turtle are now classified as endangered, with three of the seven existing species being critically endangered.

I’ll tell you mine! When my bf and I first started dating (wasn’t even official yet) we saw a Loggerhead (at least, I think that’s what it was) making its way back into the ocean! It was HUGE! One of the most memorable experiences for sure.

2. I have not had any personal encounters unfortunately, but I do live in Southeast Florida, and it is incredible to see the huge amount of effort put into preserving their nests. When at the beach, from every taped off nest, you can see atleast one other taped off nest. I love seeing these, as it is a reminder of how precious their lives are and how important it is that we do everything we can to preserve them!

The Green is my favorite. I love the vibrant colors that they hold, and also because they have been increasing in numbers on our beaches, especially this time of year!

2. I have witnessed a hatching on a beach!! It was total happen chance luck, but it was magnificent :)

3. My favorite is the loggerhead, as they have such interesting diet and feeding habits! Eating such tough food, like mollusks and sea urchins, requires the tell tale jaw strength.

2. Swimming with them in the Great Barrier Reef - was so beautiful and clear, and a great big sea turtle swam beside us. It was amazing!

2) my favourite sea turtle experience I've had was visitng the "sea turtle hospital" we have at the aquarium here and getting to see all their success stories of rehabbed turtles they've helped overcome disease or injury and re-released into the wild. they had several loggerheads when we visited.

3) the leatherback, because it's giant and its shell just makes me think of something super cool, like dragon skin :)

2. I saw one at the aquarium once! Other than that I've not had any unique experiences with them! :( I have more personal expierences with Box Turtles by rescuing them off the roads and finding them at the barn though! xD
3. My favorite would be the Hawksbill because of how cool their shell patterns are!

2. I'm a native Floridian so I'm very familiar with sea turtles. I spent a lot of time at our local marine aquarium when I was a kid and always had a soft spot for the old blind turtle that lived there. I think he was a Kemp's Ridley.

3. The Green sea turtle is my favorite. They have so much character in their faces.
