When it was coming up to your birthday, did anyone else ever have a 'donation/wishlist' on their page? And then advertise in the chat 'it's my birthday, plz donate to me!?!?!?!' or was it just me?

My skin is crawling at the thought of this, lol. 

LMAO I can't say I remember that particular snippet, but I 100% believe it. Adding to the cringe factor, I do remember when everyone had those page dolls, the ones that looked like Bratz?! Oof. Just sparkles and glitter and big eyes everywhere.

It makes me feel sick, lmao. Why were we like this. xD

Cringeworthy, yes. But I was still 100% a kid back then.

Also like... the cliques on that game, man. It really was just like school.

What about fake deaths? That was a ridiculous thing. 

Also having a nemesis. One I still have on FB (do not know why) and the other died (for real). Fortunately I don't see any of that here but the population seems older. :) 

It was SO cliquey, and nobody was shy about it either. Like, just the atmosphere in chat when one of those cliques was there was pretty awful.

The AIM chats were the best though. I had SO many mental health issues, I feel like it kept me ever so slightly sane. Even though yes, the clique thing was real, which suited our ages at the time. I kind of just assume most of us had stuff going on in our real lives, HL became this safe haven of acceptable nuttiness (which wasn't necessarily healthy).

Well I never did that but I did a ton of really cringey stuff.

Totally fell in with the cliquey mentality. My mental health was reigning unchecked at the time so I could be a real little monster...

I was mostly one of the RPing nerds; but on the plus side, one of my best friends is from my RPing days on HL. She may live in Austin but she's been to stay with me a couple of times and we're still super close, she's basically part of our extended family.

So there were some good things about HL as well (even if it was mostly just messy as heck)!

Absolutely. :) I was a bridesmaid for one of my HL friends about ten years ago. Things got a bit strained in the last year due to conflicting opinions on American politics (I'm Canadian but she's down south), COVID, you know, the big stuff, but working hard to keep it alive. About 22 years of friendship - thank you HL! 

I remember all that stuff but didnt really get involved, too many animals to train and get pics for 30 accts and over 5000 animals, I was really upset when everything changed I lost 10 years of hard work :(

hl definitely had its ups and down. like if it wasn't for hl, i wouldn't have started my art career, so i have them to thank for that big time, and if not because of that, i probably would t be here with you guys 😭❤️

I feel like SNOB must have been after my obsessive years. My intense live-on-HL time was 1999-2001 I think. Did SNOB come after?

OOF. Of the very few times I posted in chat, I ended up being bullied because my Quarter horses weren't as 'nice looking' (graphics and point wise) lmaooo rarely did I venture into chat for the clique reason. I had ZERO friends on there but I had my animals so I was okay. I remember making multiple accounts and naming each account after the dogs on the movie Eight Below. I tried to play each account with a different personality, like I was channeling the dogs 😂😂 I was far too shy to ask for donations but I remember seeing so many of them. I think I left the year before the game started falling. Fast forward quite a few years, my dad had brought up "that online horsey game I wasted so much of my time on" I googled HL and the game was completely shutdown.. So I searched for another one like it and voilà! I discovered HP! much more happier here lol 

Ewww. I mean, I know we were kids, but how sad that people decided your value as a person based on pixels. :( I'm sorry that happened!
