Custom Ads?

I've been thinking about this for awhile, but it's still a THOUGHT, not a certainty of any kind. But I wanted to get player opinions on the subject to see if it should ever even be a possibility. If I were to offer ad space on HP, what would you think? Before you answer, keep reading because it's not like most other games in what I would do: I would offer custom space, so a business would have to directly contact us to buy the space, and we wouldn't use google ads or anything that could accidentally send a kid to an inappropriate site. But it would be offered semi-cheaply to members of the game for their own small businesses (since I know so many people have photography, graphic design, or other businesses). And it would only be on pages like http://horsephenomena.com/search.php, or on the search pages. Never in the header of every page or in talk or whatever, so they wouldn't be "in the way". What do you think? It would bring HP some extra income and it would also allow for us to trade ad-space with other small businesses or game-related websites so we could get more exposure for HP. |

I don't mind having them on the pages mentioned either. I won't be buying any but if you can get buyers I'd say go for it.

You could always do a trial run (this is assuming that it's easy to remove once it's put in place). Sell ads for one month, see how it turns out, let people see if it bothers them that much and then put up a vote on the last week of the month to see if people would be ok to keep it or not. I completely agree with Shae though, I don't mind ads too much if they're not that "in your face" kind and only on certain pages. |

I like the idea in that it'd bring in funds for the game. And the adverts could perhaps be the same size as Adranth's signature picture here on the forums. I'd be happy with them as they'd be in search and I don't often use that function, so it wouldn't bother me. Plus, I have an adblocker already in use for the likes of the HP banner, so if I don't want to see the adverts, then I won't have to. |

I wouldn't mind if they were on the listed pages. I like being nosey in other people's business anyway XD Especially Etsy shops, always some awesome stuff on there. lol.. |

I definitely support this.Don't forget, Sam's said that any business wanting the adspace would have to approach her for approval. That means that there is zero chance of popups, noisy ads, ads that... well, are pretty misogynistic (weight loss ads, those AWFUL swimsuit photo "screen saver" ads that used to be on HL...). You're looking at probably a gif at the worst. If not just a plain banner image or text. Obviously no chance for viruses like dA ads. They'll also only be on pages that aren't "in the way." Search pages, the club and association listings, news, maybe the login... They won't be on animal pages, player pages, the clubs or associations themselves, or talk. Plus, there's always adblock. Also, it's a way to get past the "no advertising anything for real money" rule. We have a LOT of people on here with etsy shops, ebay shops, small business, professional photography and design, offering commissions... This would be a great way for our players to have the chance to actually advertise to their peers.  Link Tree |

I am all for this, more money for the site means more fun for the players as well. I am thoroughly behind the idea only if it is done as stated multiple times above however. I do use the search section of this site, probably at least once a week for some odd end or another and I think that would be a great location for them. As for the others I am good with them as well, as long as they stay off the pages they are supposed to stay off of. I like that it will not be audio and will be stationary. I definitely enjoy that we could be getting the chance to see some of our players RL businesses advertised and promoted. Trading ads with other sim games and etc. could definitely bring in more traffic.Perhaps a good idea would be a six month or one year trial period (I know it could be difficult getting all the slots to sell, that is why so long a trial area) and closely monitor HP's stats and compare them with the averages of previous years.If I had a business, yes I would pay for ad space on HP. -Carl Sagan |

I think this is a good idea. I already have AdBlock so it probably won't even affect me, but I think it would actually be pretty cool to see ads for players' own businesses - provided that you do keep the advertising primarily to (active!) players, and not some ridiculous mass-spammed ad. (Also watch out for people who sign up for an account, just to post an ad, because they do marketing for some company or another >_>.)I just had another idea! I think this is a fantastic idea! Especially if some of the funds help bring about some long-needed changes to HP. I also agree with the HPD to USD option, since it would hopefully help the economy on here a little bit. :] Overall, I see this, in theory, going very well. |

To be honest, as long as they're not super obnoxious pop-ups or song and video ads, I wouldn't mind them on any of the pages. (: |

Support. This is an amazing idea. as far as price, it woud depend on how you charged. weekly? monthly? yearly? maybe you could have different packages (bronze, silver, and gold) were the better the packaged the bigger the chance of the add showing up more. Maybe bronze being 50% , silver 65% and gold 80%. I think that may have sounded better in my head... |

I think this is an awesome idea. Even just as a trial for a month, then we could deliberate, or discuss in forums and go from there. i dont like ads either, but I hate popups, video ads, and redirects. if it opened in another page id be more than willing to click, i just hate losing where i was on the site i was on. I have already voiced my opinion back when this was first posted, but I have something else to throw in! - I personally would probably not pay for an ad because I have nothing to advertise. - As long as the ads stay on the said pages, I will not mind them - I really like the idea of also using HPD to pay for ads. If this was the case, I would definitely consider purchasing an ad even if it was just for my association that I run (designers arena) |

Ads I hate are moving ads. animations that do the same thing over and over and force you to look at them while you are trying to play. Hopefully flashing or invasive ads will not be allowed, if this happens. |

I support this, as long as the ads aren't obnoxious. I personally would want the following:Γ’Β’ Limited to stated pagesΓ’Β’ Doesn't have soundΓ’Β’ Doesn't pop up and force you to close it before you can continue on with whatever it was you were doing.I think that this would be a great way for HP to earn some money, and like I've said before, I can't wait to see how it would effect the features off this game! :) |

I like this idea, providing it doesn't go the way HL has gone. Those roll-over ads are enough to make a person lose their marbles. Don't even get me started on the "Men-Only" games with a half naked digital woman on the advertisement. |
