Hi all, Mary here. I've been trying to eat right but can't do that when I'm constantly eating and want something quick. (freezer meals!)

I haven't started exercising yet due to having NO energy and being sick. Almost over being sick (sinuses/sorethroat/runnynose)

Taking Iron pills helps me get my energy back so I'm hoping the one I just took will kick in today so I can get the house in better order that it is.

I hate to post my weight because I'm probably the heaviest person on HP :(

I don't want to hit the big 300 and yet I'm so close to that fine line that I'm almost in tears when I weigh. A lot of you know me and digital drawing is a passion of mine. Yet it keeps me in front of the computer for way too long. Lately I have been giving myself a time limit on how long I can be on the computer. It's helped greatly but when I'm not on here, I'm asleep. *cringes*

Nope, I'm jobless right now and should be taking advantage of that fact.

Just got back from taking a road trip with my fiance (trucker) and the way we ate is insane. Even though most of it was Subway sandwiches. We had our rough days eating cold Ravioli. YUCK! So now that I'm back home, I went shopping with my mother to pick out and bring home healthier foods. So far I've done very well. My favorite thing now is Rye bread, a type of lettuce/green, slice of chicken (Tysons), Tomatoes, and some mustard (sandwich). I have like one a day usually in the morning/lunch time.

Later on when I'm hungry, I'll fix a smoothie and that'll last me a few hours. Then for dinner, it's a salad. No food after that unless it's a cheese stick, nuts, fruit, or hot tea (mint..yum!)

And there you have it...me.

I know it's soo difficult to lose weight! I was a wrestler in high school and it was the hardest thing for me to drop just 7 lbs. However, when I did lose however many pounds I needed to, keeping it off was pretty easy just because of the regular exercise. Here's a few things I learned about dieting:-Tronic is right, you should stay away from bread. If you do decide to have some bread make it whole grain/wheat. I know it's not one of the tastier breads but it's one of the healthier breads! -Also, a lovely breakfast food (I think) is steel cut (whole) oats. I put fruit like strawberries, bananas, and blueberries in mine. Loved it.-Eat complex carbs. There's a difference between complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates. Simple carbs are bad, they are the sugars and carbs in all the food you know you shouldn't eat. Complex carbs are good! They are structurally different than simple carbs so that they break down slower during digestion and help give you energy. Some complex carbs are spinach, pasta, skimmed milk, broccoli, whole grains, and any other leguminous plants/veggies.-Another important thing--remember to only eat ONE serving per meal. I know myself, as well as many people these days will eat like 3+ servings in one meal. I didn't realize I was eating that much at one time until I started wrestling and paying attention to the nutrition details. Measure out your food and if you buy a packaged meal (like a salad) read how many servings it contains.-Something interesting I found out from a school nutritionist was that you are only supposed to eat meat the size of your palm. I was super surprised to find that out because I like to eat a piece of meat the size of my whole hand...maybe more. Also, I recommend eating lean meats like skinless chicken, and any beef/pork/lamb with "loin" in the name.-I don't know if this will help you, but I don't like to plan out my meals so I wrote down a list for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks of what I could eat. So when I got hungry, or when I was supposed eat a meal, I could look at the list and decided what I wanted. Kind of like a menu?I hope this helped! Sorry it's a lot to read. I wish you the best of luck dropping the weight. I know it's hard, but I know that if your determined and have some good support behind you, you can be successful.

I just started reading this thread and I'm in love. I can't say I have a weight problem. I weigh 100lbs. My issue is that for my whole life I was told I would never weigh more than 100lbs. Now that I do, I am mortified. I am bigger in the waist than I have been my whole life. I believe that the reason for it is my depression. I am going to start exercising and eating better so that I can maintain this somewhat healthy weight, and change it into muscle.I am loving everyone's tips!!!

Remember that when you start exercising, you are going to gain weight before you lose it. And don't be alarmed. Muscle mass weighs more than fat, and when you start using muscles that you haven't used in a while, they will begin to develop like crazy. If you haven't run, don't go out there and start running twice a day right off the bat. Ease yourself into it... walk a little, then do run/walk intervals. A lot of people just think that they can go out and run and that'll cause them to lose weight, when the reality of the matter is that generally, an overweight person cannot support themselves in the single-leg stance that running is. (By and large, running is the most difficult exercise to do correctly). This results in a lot of injuries. Don't push yourself farther than your body can take you.I drink a protein shake after every workout to help my muscles repair. I've noticed it does a lot as far as toning/developing.Also, a diet can be severely misused. Eat what you want, but make sure it's healthy. A huge reason for gaining weight is eating three large meals a day (which most people do). Grazing is better. That way, you're not taking in more than your body can handle. But don't be afraid to eat a lot, especially if it's the right stuff! Your body can definitely use the energy. Restricting your intake isn't the best way to go, especially if you're introducing exercise to your routine.Sassafras Tango is right about the meat thing. The correct meat portion is actually about a slice the size of a deck of cards. Eat a lot of fresh veggies (raw is better, if you can stomach it... I can't, and I'm a vegetarian). Salads aren't necessarily better for you, especially if they have dressing.Exercising is key. Get a gym membership and meet with a personal trainer (can't stress that enough) to get a workout routine that works for you. And keep going! It'll give you more energy and make you feel better in general. A lot of people make a mistake by going to the gym ad not meeting with a personal trainer (most have a free trial, use that and then keep with the same exercises, only upping the difficulty). Don't use the machines unless the trainer tells you a good work out for them, because most only work a single plane of motion that isn't practical as far as strength goes. But here's one more thing: if you don't like it, don't do it! You have to love what you're doing in order for the exercise to work and for you to keep up with it. Otherwise you're going to dread it and then push it aside. Absolutely hate running and feel like it does nothing for you? Then don't do it! I curse the world when I run, but I love the way it makes me feel, so I keep up with it. The biggest mistake here that you can make is doing something that you DON'T enjoy-- find a workout that you look forward to doing.Idk if this helps because I'm all over the place. But, anyway, I'm in the Army and work out twice a day, so hopefully some of it helped. Just remember, everyone is different, so you just have to find what works for you.

Good Luck Mari! I know you can do it!Remember you may fall off the wagon a few times but remember just get back up and start running again. I am planning a diet (well more of a healthy eating routine) when I quit smoking next month. I am bad because I hate eating breakfast (I normally don't eat till lunchtime) so that is my focus. I will have so much free time on my hands when I quit haha.

I just saw this thread. I love it! I have been wanting to lose weight for a long time. My heaviest was 260. Im down to about 240-241 and that took me 3 months and I plateaued which made me sad. I drink a lot a smoothies, well not recently, I broke my blender AGAIN /fail But I want to get down to at least 180. im tired of wearing size 18 pants when I knew i could fit into a size 12 years ago. I want to go out and run or even just walk but it hurts so much after walking for more then a mile, [which makes my job difficult]. I have a bad ankle so thats as to why it hurts. Im taking it slow, but my problem is is that I LOVE food, like sweet stuff, and pizza and everything that is basically not good for losing weight :( Im also currenty the biggest person at my job right now and it upsets me when all the tiny tiny tiny people are like OMG Im so fat .___.

Ughh!! I too have a weight problem. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I'm around 200-220 right now when I used to weigh like 120 a couple of years ago. I'm short, 5'4, so it seems to show more on a shorter person than a taller person it seems. I'm also not very patient and I'm like "I want it off now!" but it does take time and I lose interest. I suffer from really bad headaches too, so I find it difficult to exercise. Depression also plays a part in this. I'm just not motivated to do anything but lay around the house. And eating healthy is hard too. I love fast food & sweets, not a big fan of fruits and vegetables other than bananas. I can tolerate strawberries, but only if they are dipped in whipped cream or chocolate :( I keep saying I'm going to start exercising, but I never do. But they say insanity is doing the same thing everyday and expecting different results. If I keep being lazy and expect to be thinner, then it's never going to happen.
