The Azawakh is an elegant sighthound originating from Africa, mainly Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso. It is also called the Tuareg Sloughi. It is a short coated, flat muscled dog averaging 30 to 55 pounds. It comes in any color or color combination. There are no color or marking disqualifications in the breed. It is a companion dog, guardian, and lure courser. It is a running dog who prefers warm to hot climates as it is long legged and thin skinned. It features a  deep chest, almond eyes, and a very thin physique. It is high energy and has incredible endurance. It is a rare dog outside of its nomadic origins and there are reportedly less than 350 in the United States.
