In the old OLD days (before HL went down hill), we used to use AIM chat and have auctions? And people would actually sell horses?
I don't know why I thought of that randomly today. I miss the old days where everyone was very active at buying and selling horses. |

I also miss the active selling days, but I think the reason this has stopped is there are simply fewer members than before. Most of them grew up and out of the sim game phase and are probably married with kids and no time for these games anymore. As for the ones who stayed, they still got older and have less time to breed enough animals for sale. And most people are pretty protective of their lines, which I don't blame them... I am, too. That said, I personally don't like breeding backups from every single pair I own because most don't get sold and then I have to delete them. That's why I let people know they should approach me if they want to buy into my lines. |

I remember that. Buying and selling was big time. Maybe we can get enough players on here to make it worth to sell.. But even so we have a great game going with a great group of people.. |

Wow that was actually before my time I think. I joined HL in 6th or 7th grade...
There's a couple breeds on here work somewhat competitive markets, but there's also a culture here of being the only breeder or a small select group of breeders. That being said I do wish there was a bit more exchanging of lines and such. Link Tree |

That was before my time too. I don’t think I joined HL until around 2003 - 2004. How did HL grow to be so big and so active?? A little OT, but does anyone know how many active players there are here on HP? I know you can see how many people are currently online, but I’ve been curious to know something like how many individuals logged on this month or how many people log on multiple times a month. |

Yesss!! I totally remember that! They would set up a time, advertise it in chat (or send it to all of their aim friends), and you would have to join the group chat and they would post a horse and people would bid and when people stopped, they accepted the bid. I remember you used to be able to set minimum bids you were willing to accept, etc. it was really fun for some reason to be a part of that. I really get nostalgic for olden hl days, but then I think about how stupid it became haha

I remember HL when you could TYPE IN the breed lol. I had like guinea pigs and weird things like that...and it was before I knew anything about stock rules, and they didn't really have any, so I would just find a cute picure on google xD |

with most breeders here many are happy to sell back ups from certain lines, all you have to do is ask. |

I may have a Discord HP server. There's basically no activity on it, but since AIM is dead Discord is kinda the next best thing. I just had a few HP players on Discord so we all have a place to drop random thoughts with having that server.
On HP I'm not sure it's necessary since most people will happily sell if you send them a message. The only time I've ever seen anyone refuse to sell is when it's from special lines. |

This would have been in...2001 or 2002. (I'm so old!) I remember flipping between horseland and neopets. :P |

Oh wow, totally forgot about those. But yep, I was in a few of those auctions.. Actually bought a few and sold a few :x haaa. I do miss those days, and miss the old AIM. I tend to be a private person, so I'm not one to add random people to FB so it's really changed.. Everyone depends on FB to stay in contact these days. |

I'm older and married now but I played horse land and equintium back years ago. I stumbled on this site when I found out equintium no longer existed and horse land was well different... I loved training and selling! |

I totally agree! People are super protective of their lines now... it's too bad breeders don't share lines more to diversify things. |

I think the protectiveness of lines on here stems back to bad experiences on HL and how people would buy horses then breed them zillions of times or inbreed them etc. Or how players would buy foals and pups or use studs, then the owner of the stud/parents would break the line. |

im basically the same as murd. i have 2-3 lines i dont sell backups with mainly because 1 is an outside line and its just way to easy to cross line with it second i have stipulations within some of the lines from other breeders and my personal line usually gets shoved into the stipulation line but im always game to offer backups no problem |

I always offer backups (90% of my lines) - and I end up deleting them as tana said. Also I remember typing in the breed on HL too!!! My last name is goddard so I combined every arabian breed into a new breed The Goddard Arabian and thought I was a big deal. Think I cried at school in the library when they went to legit breeds lol |

I think the issue of fewer sales is that, especially in the case of backups, people get tired of them not selling and subsequently having to delete them, so they don't bother unless someone approaches them. I'd say this is the case with rare breeds, as I no longer breed backups of my Finnhorses unless someone asks. With more popular breeds, it's possible to sell more, but it also depends on the market and what you have to offer. |

I only sell backups if someone asks for 1 as well :) |
