Amphitrite’s and Too Hot To Handle Top 10 Romantic Movies

1. Lady and The Tramp

A children’s classic, Lady and the Tramp is the tale of well-behaved little Lady and a ruggedly handsome Tramp who find themselves on an adventure after the evil Aunt Sarah tells Lady she is a bad dog and takes her to the pet store to get a muzzle. But Lady gets scared and escapes, finding herself on the mean streets, all alone. Of course, Tramp comes to the rescue and wins the heart of this lucky Lady. But of course, one can’t forget one of the most famous scenes in the movie world, the one where Lady and Tramp share a spaghetti dinner at the cutest little Italian restaurant. A truly wonderful movie to watch with your man for a romantic night in.

2. Beethoven the 2^nd

Roll over Beethoven, Beethoven the 2^nd is here to stay and its hotter and steamier than the first, well for a kid’s movie of course. Beethoven meets the love of his life, in the shape of a gorgeous St. Bernard named Missy. But true love never did run smooth and Missy finds herself dognapped by her master’s ex-mistress. But Missy is hiding a secret, four of them in fact. Beethoven is about to become a dad! Of course, Beethoven comes to the rescue, and saves Missy and the puppies from a terrible fate. Missy is one lucky lady to fall in love with such a handsome, rugged good boy in a brown in white suit.

3. Marley and Me

Okay, so this one isn’t strictly a dog-based romance, but you and I both know that Marley is the real hero of this film. If he hadn’t of kept his master and mistress on their toes, taking them from one adventure to the next, they might not have realised just how much they loved one another! Marley may have been the destroyer of several couches, doors, and even expensive necklaces, but he showed the true meaning of the dog/master/mistress relationship, and that is something worth celebrating.

4. Homeward Bound

So I have it on good authority that this movie is on of The Hot Bunches favourite movies ever, and that is one of the reasons why it is ranked so highly on my list, well that and it features a devilishly handsome Golden Retriever named Shadow. While not strictly a romance, this movie tells the story of Chance, a free-spirted American Bulldog, Sassy (she’s a cat, but we can overlook that this one time) and Shadow, a wise old Golden Retriever, who love their masters and mistresses so much that they escape from their sitters and go on a cross country adventure to be reunited. I couldn’t imagine how I would feel if The Hot Bunch left me to go on vacation! Thank goodness I know they would always take us with them, they are good mistresses!

5. 101 Dalmatians

What better love story than that between parents and their puppies? Perdita and Pongo are two beautiful Dalmatian’s who are head over heels in love and have just had their first litter of puppies. One day, an evil woman with funny coloured hair who wants to buy the puppies to make a fur coat! When it’s made clear that she can’t buy the puppies, she steals them away in the middle of the night and adds them to her growing collection, a collection of 101 dalmatian puppies! Perdita and Pongo work together to free not only their puppies, but the other puppies from a dastardly fate. A lovely story, with a hint of adventure and horror, the perfect movie if you’re looking for any excuse to snuggle with your man.

6. Milo and Otis

I think we can forgive this incredible film for featuring a cat, because both Amph and I support all kinds of love. This film features two best friends Milo, an adventurous orange tabby kitten, and Otis, a pug puppy, who are always on an adventure or two. They live in an idyllic life until one day Milo hides in a cardboard box on the rivers edge, which is dislodged and sends him floating downstream. Otis sets out to find him, and along the way is confronted with bears, ravens, and swamps all of which hinder his search. But all is not lost and along the way they are helped alone by an owl and pig, and not only find each other again, but also their future mates. They live happily ever after, kinda like how I now live with my best friend.

7. Bingo

There is no greater love story than that between a dog and his boy. Bingo is an outcast, a runaway circus dog, who was badly treated by his former master and made to perform tricks that scared him, including jumping through a fire hoop. After Bingo escapes, he saves the life of a young boy named Chuckie who is an outcast like him. Chuckie tries to hide Bingo from his family, but soon Chuckies family is on the move and they have made it clear Bingo is not welcome. Not to be deterred Bingo follows Chuckie for hundreds of miles, rather than be separated from him, but life does not make it easy for poor Bingo. I know how he feels, now that I have met The Hot Bunch, I would move heaven and earth to find them again if we were separated.

8. Must Love Dogs

Okay, so this one isn’t strictly about dogs, but there is no denying that if Mother Teresa and a scruffy, no-name terrier weren’t involved, Jake and Sarah would never have met and fallen in love. When Sarah decides its time to start dating again, she sets up an online dating profile with the tag line “must love dogs,” and sets up a hot date with Jake at the dog park. Although their relationship isn’t easily sailing (or rowing in their case) these two finally fall in love and tell the world that they found each other at the dog park. Maybe I should take The Hot Bunch down to the dog park, you never know who they might meet!

9. Benji

Although Benji was made long before I was born, and even before any of The Hot Bunch were born, it is a story that has stood the test of time and is still as popular today. Benji is a hardened loner, much like I was long ago. Nobody could tame him, although he has human friends, especially two children named Paul and Cindy who live with their doctor father and housekeeper. Paul and Cindy long to keep Benji, but their father is adamant that Benji is nothing but a disease ridden mongrel. When the children are kidnapped by dastardly criminals, Henry, Linda and Mitch,  Benji raises the alarm, although it takes some time for the humans to understand him! Love stories between a dog and his master really makes my tail wag!

10.  

Well, this one was tough. Amph and I really can’t decide which movie rounds out our top ten. I suggested Cujo, but she was horrified by my suggestion, just like I was of hers A Dog’s Purpose! There doesn’t need to be a movie about a dog’s purpose, a dog’s purpose is to love, and be loved, by his mate and The Hot Bunch!

I dunno, I'm with Amph on #10. With KJ Apa in A Dog's Purpose, it deserves to be on any list!

I've never heard of some of these including both of the #10 options. So I can really vote with THTH or Amph. But I will say this,

I would have voted Beethoveen's 2nd as number 1 purely because my great grandmother (AKA Nana), a very special lady in my life, gave me this movie on VHS years ago along with the first movie. I've watched these movies sooooo much it's not even funny! I love them, not only because they are such cute movies, but also because of the nostalgia of where they came from. I still have the same VHS tapes and still watch them now again and think of my beloved Nana who passed away just 6 years ago at 95 years old.

My mascot entry's namesake, Beethoveen's Chubby, is one of Missy's 4 pups in Beethoveen's 2nd and my third generation Saint Bernard in the line I've dedicated to Nana R.I.P.

Amph and I thought this guide would be good to ensure all the Best Boy's and Girls of HP got the loving they deserve.

Do you guys remember the animd film All Dogs Go To Heaven?? That could have been one for this list! A good but sad one would be Where The Red Fern Grows. I like all these options though some of these movies I had not thought about in YEARS.

You have been City'd xD

I am sitting here with the three lovely ladies behind The Hot Bunch, who are running this year’s campaign for Too Hot To Handle to win HP’s greatest prize, 2021 Mascot, no ticket or shows category. I want to know all about them, who are they, what makes them tick, and why they have formed such a formidable team We find ourselves sitting outside at the local café, Too Hot and his beautiful mate Amph at their feet, the sun in shining and all thoughts of a global pandemic are long gone.

Thank you all for meeting me here today. I am sure that our readers are looking forward to getting to know the ladies behind The Hot Bunch. So first up, why don’t you tell us a little about where your player name comes from?

City buries her face in her hands and stifles a giggle. Rosa, the epitome of style takes a sip of her coffee, while Mame strokes THTH’s head which lays in her lap.

City:  This is actually pretty mortifying. I was an active player on HL since 1999 and have always played under the name City of Angels. When I moved over to HP in 2009, I decided to keep the same name. Now, 22 years later I have no idea where it really came from, but I am sure looking back to my eleven-year-old self, it was probably something Buffy/Angel related. I was super into Angel and his brooding good looks back then.

Subrosa: So, over the (many) years I’ve gone through phases of different player names, but in the end, I chose Subrosa because as a tween I rode a BMX and was OBSESSED with a rider sponsored by the BMX brand Subrosa. Looking back, he wasn’t as handsome as I remember but the name still stuck!

Mame: Many years ago I played HL under various names, my last two names being Londres because of being from London and doing Spanish at the time, but then I finished HL as Mameha after reading Memoirs of a Geisha and falling in love with the character. Over the years everyone had referred to me as Mame so I’ve dropped the Ha from my name.

Each of you hold some of the highest pointed dogs/horses of your chosen breed. Can you tell me what attracted you to these breeds in particular?

All of them smile proudly, and who can blame them, each have created some fantastic pixels to be proud of.  

Subrosa: I have a Rottweiler in real life, Taco. So, for me it was an easy choice. I know I am biased, but they truly are the most wonderful, misinterpreted breed.

City: I have only recently returned to HP after what is almost a six- or seven-year absence, so I haven’t quite got my lines going where I want them yet, but my horse Beautiful Ghosts is currently sitting at 11th highest pointed of her breed. I have always bred Dutch Warmbloods, there is something about their grace and athletic ability that I find simply beautiful. I never would have imagined as my eleven-year-old self, playing HL on dial up internet (yes, I am really THAT old), that I would still be playing and breeding so many years later.

Mame: I had a gorgeous Connemara who was my soul horse, so Connemara’s were the natural choice for me on HP, as in real life I am not yet ready to commit to another despite how amazing a breed they are, known for their versatility.

Thank you so much for that interesting information, all of you are incredibly talented ladies. That leads me to my next question, what are your goals on HP, where do you see your lines going?

City looks over at Mame and Rosa, as the relative new girl to the group, she looks to the others for advice. Mame and Rosa, sit there cool as a cucumber, they’ve got this, they have been here before.

Mame: For now, I’m focussing on forming some really strong foundation lines, albeit I am now about to start breeding generation seven. The aim is to breed my horde down and have a smaller, but much more prolific group. As it stands, I own the highest pointed of breed and know I can better that through breeding as opposed to having a project pony.  

City: At the moment my focus is solely on rebuilding my lines after my recent return. I am aiming to create a solid foundation line of 2millers, before producing some rising stars that will aim for three mill and over. I won’t lie, top Dutch Warmblood is firmly set in my sights, but that is a little way off yet. I also very much enjoy breeding and selling my backup foals to other breeders and buying outside backups to add to my lines.

Rosa: I am really focussing on my Rottie lines at the moment. I currently have a few generation nines here and there. My main focus is on my Mexicana line, and ultimately down the line I want to aim for the highest pointed Rottweiler on HP. Project pending!

After creating your own HP empires, tell us why you decide to team up? Where did the idea of The Hot Bunch come from?

They look at each other and smile, it is clear that they are close friends and a deeply united front. THHT wags his tail and begs the waiter for another biscuit. Amph gets two when THTH isn’t looking.  

Rosa: Originally, I believe we almost chose a horse breed haha. Ultimately, breed didn’t matter, I knew I just wanted a partnership between us three. I think Golden’s were a coincidence, City spams me with pictures of her BEAUTIFUL golden puppy, and I think Blitz was selling one of her awesome dogs at the same time, so I think everything just fell into place. City and Mame are utterly amazing people, and the fact we all live within an hour of each other is also awesome. We have plans to meet up when Covid restrictions have lessened! We are also in the same time zone which helps with communication massively, well… when I’m not napping during the day anyway! I think the name The Hot Bunch came from City’s wonderful brain, and we then came up with THTHs name around that. Besides, we are one Hot Bunch!  

Mame: Like Rosa said, we were meant to do a horse breed, but we couldn’t agree, and City spams us with pictures of her soon to come home golden retriever puppy. And as we already knew that we wanted to partner up, goldens were the natural choice. From there we persuaded City that the mascot contest would be an awesome way of pushing ourselves into training a fantastic dog. I was actually working trying to sort out grumpy kids when my watch kept pinging me because City and Rosa had set up a group chat and were messaging each other getting all excited about the prospect. When I eventually got to see what was going on, I had something like 72 messages! City brings her creative mind to the team, Rosa brings the creations to life, and I like to be the organiser and make sure things are done when they need to be, or ideally have them ready beforehand.

City: Our team is something I am enormously proud of. We compliment each other so perfectly. Rosa is the arty one, who can whip up a masterpiece is 2 seconds flat, in fact I send her hand drawings of the things that I want, and it is like she goes into my brain and recreates it perfectly. Mame is our rock. She is our leader and organiser; she keeps us on the straight and narrow. Not only that but she is willing to listen to anything and provide advice and practical assistance. I was the one who came up with the name The Hot Bunch, because I think we are an awesome team of talented people, and we are on fire!

Welcome back to the second of our three-part special. Today we explore the lives of the Hot Bunch outside of HP and learn more about them as individuals, and we learn what makes them tick. But we also have a special surprise in store, read on to the end to find out what is waiting for you!

We have returned to the café where we met yesterday, and the weather remains beautiful. Today we sit stretched out on the grass, THTH and Amph playing with the children from a nearby table. Mame keeps a watchful eye, while Rosa sips a coffee and City chows down on a bacon sandwich.

Thank you so much ladies for meeting me here again. Yesterday we spoke about your life on HP, what kind of player you are, and where your aspirations lie. Today I would like to go a little deeper, get to know a little about your life in the real world. Why don’t you start off by telling us about your proudest achievement so far?

THTH gazes up at me as he stops playing with the children for a moment and gives me a look. He wants me to know how proud he is of The Hot Bunch and all they have accomplished so far.

Mame: Completing my degree whilst working two jobs, one overnight and the other as a PA to a power couple, all while raising Madden while he was still so young. My degree ended up as a 2:1 which is what all employers want here. But more importantly my dissertation/thesis scored 84% and was the highest scoring in my “school” year.

City: Six years ago, I set off one summers day to move to London (from New Zealand) and start what was supposed to be a two-year adventure. I had one friend that I could stay with for a couple of days, but then I really was on my own. I decided that day I wanted to see every country in the world, and I set out to achieve that. So far, I have been to over 40 countries and try and spend at least ten days – two weeks in each. I can talk your ear off about travel, so if you ask, be warned!

Rosa: Other than having one of the most beautiful families in the world? Achieving an honours degree in Nursing. I went through a lot during those three years of studying, working 2300 hours for free, we moved to a new house, I had a car accident, mental health issues, and battles with the health care system regarding my autistic and ADHD son.

What makes you laugh? What kind of thing makes you tip your head back and laugh like nobody is watching?

THTH and Amph wag their tales, their tongues lolling out the side of their mouths. It’s obvious they have a great sense of humour too.  

City: My friends. It is really important to me that I can laugh with them. The Hot Bunch have a remarkably similar sense of humour (Hot dogs anyone?) which means we get on great, and never run out of things to say to each other! I also super love dad jokes. I have an entire Facebook chat dedicated to who can have the best worst dad joke of the day.

Mame: Its usually the daftest of things like dad jokes, or someone doing something incredibly stupid like leaving their car on a boat ramp at the bottom while the tide is out. But us Hot Bunch girls make each other laugh a lot too for some of the randomest things.

Rosa: Honestly, this is an easy one. It sounds so harsh, but my husband hurting himself. He is so accident prone that I can’t even take him seriously when he does it anymore. I mean, the other morning he fell up the stairs spectacularly… five minutes later he fell down the same set of stairs and landed in a heap on the floor.

Everybody has a dark side, come on tell us, what really makes you tick?

THTH whines at the words dark side, he doesn’t like it when people talk about bad things. But Mame reassures him that he’s okay, and Rosa rubs Amphs tummy. City… well City is chowing down on another bacon sandwich. She sneaks THTH some when she thinks nobody is watching.

Rosa: Late people, traffic, driving behind slow people, walking behind slow people, cold weather, liars, not having coffee and pineapple on pizza!

Mame: Inconsiderate and highly disorganised people. I don’t have the time or the patience for people who can’t stick to what they say, as if their time is more important that mine. Bad drivers like Rosa is another HUGE bugbear of mine.

City: People talking to me before my morning coffee. What kind of heathen does that? At work, people in charge who have no idea what they are doing and putting me and my team at risk because they want to play God. A certain person not listening to me when I speak, because I really want to repeat myself ten times *mutters*

Well, we’ve had a few serious questions now, so let’s get a little bit playful. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

At the mention of powers, THTH ears prick up and a small tendril of smoke drifts lazily skywards from the grass under our feet. Amph woofs quietly and a small shower descends over the spot, dampening the smoke. She gives THTH the “look”, but when she looks away the corner of THTH’s eyes crinkle and he winks at us.

City: To turn into any animal, but especially a wolf. Of course, that may be completely influenced by growing up reading and watching Animorphs and so desperately wanting to be part of the team. Can anyone say 90’s child?

Mame: To be able to stop time. There is so much I want to do but I don’t have the time to do it all. For example, I want to get back into playing football (soccer) but that means two training sessions a week and that’s time I could be with Madden.

Rosa: To be able to freeze time. I like to nap, like a lot, and I hate the feeling that I could have been productive during nap time. If I could freeze time, I could nap and still be able to get on with things during the day!

Close your eyes and imagine. You are stranded on an island with any one person, who would it be?

With me of course! The words are barely out of my mouth before THTH pipes in, saying that of course they would all chose to take him. Mame ruffles his head and tells him he is a good boy. He lies down contentedly at her feet.

Rosa: Tom Hardy. It if was only Tom and I stranded on an island forever, then surely, he would have to want me? We could have babies and live happily forever after on the island!

City: My cat Luna. I am not so much a people person. She is the absolute love of my life so we could spend all day exploring (she is a curious cat) and then cuddling in the evening!

Mame: Ohhh, that is a tough one. There are so many amazing people I would like to pick the brains of. For instance, I’m highly into my football and there have been some amazing managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Jurgen Klopp. There are also some amazing people within equestrianism such as Sir Mark Todd, Mark King, William Fox-Pitt, and even the Queen who I think a lot of people could learn from. But I think ultimately, and I know the question said one person, but it would be my grandparents. I had lost all of them by the time I was fifteen and I would do anything to have just one more conversation with them.

And for our last question, before we hand it over to the audience, tell us where you see yourself in five years?

THTH tells me that he would like to see him and Amph married, maybe with a puppy of their own. Amph nips him gently on the ear and tells him to pipe down, today is about The Hot Bunch.

City: That is a really hard one for me. I know that in five years I would like to have seen more of the world, especially Costa Rica and Nashville. I am just about to start my master’s in social work so I hope that I would have graduated. I should be married *faints at the thought* and maybe a baby. Or maybe I’ll just be sipping cocktails in Vegas while the cabana boy fans me with a giant frond.

Mame: Absolutely no idea, probably still on HP trying to improve my lines!

Rosa: Hopefully living in Australia. Our five-year plan as a family is to save and to emigrate. Australia sounds the most appealing to us right now, but things could change. I think we could be happy anywhere away from the UK.

So that brings us to the conclusion of our scripted interview, but as I said before we have a little surprise in store. So now we throw it over to you, our readers. A little note from Too Hot to Handle

I just wanted to say a huge congratulations to the other mascots as we enter the end of our first week. It’s been a tough week this week, we started our training, up to twenty shows a day if they were good, which I know takes all of my energy, I don’t know about yours! City, Mame and Rosa have worked together as a team to produce some fantastic results with my training, and I am so pleased that they are on this journey with me. This week we have entered the Acrostic contest with a little ditty that gives you a preview of my backstory (I have it on good authority, it should be posted this week *drumroll please*). We also completed the Bad Drawing Contest with a cute little picture of me dressed like a fireman, and the Find Me a Picture contest with some cute photos of Amph and I. The Hot Bunch also launched their first ever competition, where you can win 75mill or a 1-month upgrade, just by doing a quiz and sending the ladies your results!

I also have a little secret I am not supposed to tell you, but here goes nothing… *whispers* I have it on good authority, that another, more awesome competition will be released this week, with insane prizes that are worth over 500mill. But you didn’t hear that from me!

But what is a little weekly round up without catching up with some of the others. Let’s do some shout outs to some of my fellow mascots!

Massive shout out to my friend and fellow Dog no tixs/shows competitor Bluey owned and trained by Allix. He has done amazing with his training this week, well done! He also has an amazing pic done by Allix. I’m gunna have to keep an eye on him, he’s giving me a run for my money!

Shout out to Rainbow, owned and trained by the amazing Jaya in the horse no ticket/shows category. What a wonderful tribute to your beautiful Rainbow baby, we will be keeping an eye on your progress and cheering you on!

And last by not least for this weeks shout outs, the amazing and epic Io owned and trained by Mango. The graphics on this lovely lady are out of this world…. Literally! With some stellar (see what I did there!) training, she’s gunna be one to watch!
