So i've been looking for a new bird to add to my flock, and after keeping Cockatiels for most of my life and having a Conure for a couple years, I decided i'm ready to branch out and get something a bit bigger. I WAS in the market for an Indian Ringneck but nobody seems to have any young birds around here being almost Winter and all. So I was surfing the pet pages last night and I came across an ad for a handraised Rainbow Lorikeet located in the next town over. So I called the lady and arranged to go visit today.

Turns out she had two, brother and sister, and they were quite close and Danny didn't like the idea of separating them. So we came home with both of them XD



She hasn't had them DNA tested so she's not 100% sure, but she thinks the one closest to the camera is a boy and the other is a girl. They hatched on the 13th and 14th of February so they're only approx 3 months old. They're weaned and on adult food (HUGE PLUS) and they're very tame. They hate me right now because i'm the big brute that shoved them in a box and took them away from their home, but they'll come around. After some protesting and arguing they both stepped up on to my hand and allowed me to put them in their cage (which is very bare right now but is only a temporary holding cage until their proper cage is set up).

I'm so happy! I love them already. They're such little characters! I'm gonna have them DNA tested so I know for sure who is what, but for now i'm just going to assume they're a boy and girl. They don't have names yet and that is going to be the hardest part I think lol. NAMING IS SO HARD.

Danny said they're my early early birthday present haha XD (my birthday is in september)

Zoe's warming up to them. She's already bossing them around lol. They're both learning their boundaries with her. One of them got pecked on the head last night because he snuck up (and I mean snuck up, he crouched down and all) and licked her foot when she was asleep and she lost her mind LOL.

Everyone got their wings clipped the other day. The Lorikeets were done by the lady that had them before me, but she did it wrong and they could still fly dangerously well. I've lost birds to an open door in the past and I don't intend on losing any more. Bandit accidentally got out once last year when danny forgot he was out and opened the door, but he flew to the fence of next door's yard and sat there so danny was able to grab him and bring him back. I think Bandit freaked himself out and wasn't sure what to do or where to go lmao.

The Lori's still don't have names yet. They've just been him and her lmao. I've been looking for a cute couple's name and I found a super long list which I will go through later. Hopefully i'll find something I like :P

They're super OK with me now. Especially if I have fruit or juice of any kind. They've been settling in for a few days now so i'm starting one on one training with each of them today. Should be fun!
